Description

"1. Behemoths are the largest known animals of Wylica, surpassing even the forest elephants and molochs. Able to reach up to 4.30m/14'1" ft in height and 13.50m/44'2" ft in length, these creatures can be found living near water sources.

2. Although known for being gentle giants and for not caring about the other creatures’s presence, male behemoths during mating season are incredibly agressive and territorial. It’s during this time they fight each other using their formidable tails as weapons for the right to mate with females. In any other animal, the tail blow could be fatal, but behemoths have a strong armour made of toughned scales and osteoderms to resist the impact.

3. With almost half of the total body length, the tail is the most dangerous part of a behemoth. The reason being the fact that the tip is covered by 4 rows of spikes derived from the osteoderms and back spines, alongside toughned keratinized scales. The behemoth can unleash a powerful strike using it, with the spikes serving to maximize the damage and the toughned scales to protect it from the force of the impact. The attack is normally used in interspecies duels, but it also serves as a formidable defense from predators.

4. I found this unfortunate sub-adult owl-bear during one of my expeditions. It got too close to a male behemoth during the mating season and it is a major example of the damage a tail strike can do. It is incredible how it did not immediately died after the impact. The eye got completely destroyed, its jaw is hanging open due to it being broken and the skull is most likely shattered on multiple places. The individual will be extremely luck if it survives.

5. Almost no creature dares to hunt a behemoth due to its enormous size and tail, but some predators have the scale and weapons to such deed. In those cases, the behemoth still has its tail and armour to protect itself.

6. Going from leafs and plants, to fishes and small animals, the diet of this creature is generalist, making it an omnivore. Since its tail is dragged on the ground, the behemoth can easily rear up in a tripod position to reach leafs and watch its surroundings, making it easier to find food or threats. To support its weight, the base of the tail has extremely strong muscles."
