Description
I was talking to the other day. I told him how I had bought a sheet of scratchboard a few months ago (turns out it was over 2 years since I actually purchased it) but couldn't think of what to use it for until I saw his Alien painting [link]So this is a WIP of the 6 hours already spent scratching away the top black layer with a pointy tool. It's a bit fiddly but not quite as tedious as stippling.
The scratchboard is about 24" x 18" and what you see so far is only half....the Predator is going on the other half

Oh good mind you that one was well worth the wait I just love your pencil work, i sometimes try looking close enough to get some tips, but you can't see any flaws that may give it away

I only heard that pronunciation of coincidence yesterday - for the first time ever and thought it was just a random thing in my family - apparently not!
thanks for the smile!

well it's different, so it makes a nice change...though it actually not too different to stippling...worth having a bash though

Stippling?? *knows nothing* also is scratchboard generally available in art shops?

yeah you should be able to get it easy enough, it's also known as scraperboard but I think the shops try to keep it out of the way of prying hands because it damages so easily, so you'll need to ask for it.

I hadn't realised you could buy sheets of the stuff, I thought they always came in kits until someone on artwanted told me otherwise

Oh wow, very cool! I've never done anything on scratchboard and haven't ever even thought to do so. It looks really impressive though...and difficult...and patience requiring (which obviously you have!)
Can't wait to see other WIP's!

Thanks, the last time I did one was one of those preprinted scraperfoil kits about 30 years ago.
