The Story"Every man is sewn with the same thread, the same fabric in their marrow. With flesh of metal and hearts of stone, they are kept knit. Protected. But there is a call--one designed to tug the fray. One designed to be the fray. Leather boots silent beneath him, carrying him down the rotten slabs of Saccharine Port, his confident stride hesitated as the wind shifted and bore a voice. Talen's nerves began to light and his blood churned--the stitches of his very soul came undone. Eyes brightening with a sudden flash of cyan emotion, every muscle froze just as that within scorched, for her song had been heard. A mission lay forgotten in the recesses of his mind as all thought trained solely on the hypnotic lure, and the King of Thieves turned toward the blue-washed rocks to seek his treasure."

This is the first time Evarina and Talen meet. She, being a Syren, lures him with her voice while he is at the docks on business for his guild, the Order of the Black Cloaks. Although taught to make haste, it's a lesson she never quite learned, so she can't resist the game and decides to toy with him before taking his life. Engaging in a round of wit and playful challenge, his unique personality intrigues her, and before long she finds herself as lost as he. This scene depicts the moment where their hands meet, both of them recognizing that whatever plans they'd had minutes ago were long gone and that, perhaps, their futures have changed as well.

Art InformationWOOWEEEEE, this is finally done. -wipes sweat- It was a project spanning several days and seriously tested the limits of my patience skill. It was my first time painting a mermaid, so all the fins and scales and such were a huge undertaking and involved a lot of messing around to try different tactics. Not to mention that I abhor working with water. >.> I am very intelligent in choosing this concept, clearly hahahah. The background itself took several hours and I got incredibly carried away with creating Alcryst, the world they are in, but I think it was worth it in the end. It being a land of extreme fantasy, there is a lot of magic going on, from the color scheme to the many sources of light to the bits of unrealistic nature here and there. I also must someday learn to not resize the canvas until after I've painted their faces, because dear lord this was practically pixel art because of its tininess. D= Seriously, her nose is like 10 pixels and her eye is about 4, it was wretched lol. As always, a huge thank you to HarleyKyn for her constant encouragement and support during this, she watched almost the entire thing and was very useful! Even if I distrubed her to her very core by using close to 700 layers hahahaha. I am a paranoid artist
