I think it would have been better if Shining Armor was the one that tried to save her, seeing as brotherly love is inherently stronger than friendship love, meaning that Twilight would be much more willing to risk the entire equestrian race for her brother rather than spike. Also, Spike is a wimp and cannot be compared to Trinity. But these are just my opinions.
