Description
Not sure how much use anyone would be able to get out of this, but I love it when others put up some cosplay/craft tutorials rather than keeping it some kind of trade secret. Also, the hat on the bottom right is for the character of Kijin from Yami no Matsuei (manga). A friend is considering cosplaying him and I wanted to try making the hat.
Update: You can apply the nail-polish effect to the backs of the fake plastic gems from Michael's or any craft store, as long as it's clear and has a flat back.

My groups doing the whole cast of Yami next year, hopefully. It's more like...over half of us are pulling ours outta retirement
Good luck, and it's looking great so far! Again, I can't wait to see finished pics!

Well, I haven't done Muraki in years, but we're talking about picking up our group either next year (AWA XV), or the year after (AWA XVI).

Wow... Pure and simple; considering that it looks that easy to do.
Dunno when I'll need to, but I'm willing to bet it'll be useful for a future cosplay. Thanks for the awesome tutorial!

I was already playing with foil backing on those glass gem things for a cosplay, but I never thought of using nail polish; you're genius! Acrylic paint gives way too much of a weird matte look to use on clear jewels, but the shiny nail polish seems to work wonderfully. Thank you~

That's a fantastic idea for making fake gems. Thank you for posting this. Now if only I had a more extensive nail polish collection ( I never paint my nails anymore...) then I'd make tons of these for craft projects.

Very useful, thanks!!
If you're pressed for time, you can use hotglue and fabric, too. You just coat the bottom of one of the glass beads with hot glue, and then press it down onto the fabric. You can watch from above to make sure that there are no bubbles, which is handy. The only thing you need to watch out for is that you don't glue the bead to your working surface. Granted, I like the look of your opal better, but the fabric can give an interesting effect too- especially if you find a cool and funky pattern/ coloration to use.
Ooh, if you friend cosplays as Kijin, can s/he post pictures?? You never see any Yami cosplay anymore, let alone the summons.
