While I have seen different artists focus their efforts on various 'Inktober'-esque challenges this October, I felt like doing some smaller challenge myself - given that this month (other than December) is an academically heavy month for me. One of the series I have been watching on my weekend breaks is 'Sonic X', which has been a... mixed experience to say the least. To potentially start off a batch of 'Sonic the Hedgehog' related drawings, I thought I would focus my efforts on Maria Robotnik, who I think is very misused character in the fandom (but that is a whole other discussion).

I thought her tragic death, amongst other elements in the anime adaptation, was very sanitized despite the fact that she is supposed to been SHOT to death by G.U.N. soldiers (because, kids apparently). Another thing that has always rubbed me the wrong way in Maria's depictions is how she never really looks like someone who is supposed to be dying of an incurable illness. I think I managed to capture her inherent sweetness while still having her look frail and sickly in subtle ways here. Nevertheless, ever since I was a kid, her death always made me quite sad; it is no wonder that Shadow continues to show signs of being traumatized since he directly witnessed her dying so horribly while sacrificing herself for his safety for the betterment of humanity.
