Still got Avatar on the mind.Rough pencils (actually pretty clean, but still...rough work) of Iroh costume reference notes. Except for the younger Iroh (extreme left, completely invented, story idea too) and the General Iroh (Ba Sing Se siege), the clothes are referenced from screenshots. The thing is, with his general armour, nothing was seen below the breastplate. The big flame design can be seen on other generals' armours in the serie. But the lower part is still just speculation.
Seeing how little Iroh changed over the years, I didn't dare move too far away from his overall look for his younger self.
Eh, that's the thing before starting projects or ideas: notes notes and more notes. See what work, doodles for easy reference during work, etc...Just in case I ever do something with all these.

Stick Daemons make little commentaries apparitions. They tend to do that, but not too often.
Iroh belong to Mike and Bryan, Nickelodeon and Viacom. I'm just having fun drawing him.

Yay! More awesome Iroh-y goodness from rufftoon! I've always been interested in character aging studies and examples of different costume designs, so this is like Uber-Mega-Bonusness for me to look at. He's so cute! (I mean poke-his-belly cute, not ask-him-on-a-date cute. Though he is exactly the sort of older man that a woman would go for once she grew out of the shallow stages of her life. Have I said too much?)
Anyway, excellent work as always!

Definitely poke his belly cute, especially later in life. His younger self probably had a meaner, military streak to him.

I think it would depend entirely upon whom he was dealing with. Opposing armies, yeah, they'd be screwed with porcupines, but innocent bystanders would probably be safe enough.
But he had way less belly to poke back then, and it would have been hard to poke it through the armor. So I guess the point is moot.
(This may be the randomest conversation I've had so far this week. And that's saying a lot, considering is my sister and roommate.)

I wonder if young Ozai gloated when he got taller than his big brother? Iroh certainly seems like he must have taken after their mother or something - Ozai totally got Azulon's taller skinnier genes.

Hehe, Ozai may have gloated, but Iroh always put him down with being the "big older brother" anyway 
I think Iroh possibly may look more like his grandather Sozin, and yesh, Ozai totally takes after his own tall father.

Oooh yeah! Souzen looked like a pretty heavily built guy in his few screenshots. Iroh was probably more muscled as a young man, then just graaadually developed that nice comfortable tea-belly when he retired. XD

Some of the changes are subtle, but they're there. Mostly have to do with facial hair and bulk, but still. It was an interesting exercise to pay attention to the few different Iroh's that were shown in the serie.

The Ba Sing Se (tea shop) Iroh was more of laughing and smiling than being sad :< repar it!

Iroh is like a good wine: He only gets better with time. And he isn't short, he is concentrated awesomeness (preaching to the choir, I know).
The stickdemons are cute, although I don't know if that's a fitting description for a creature of hell.
