Description NOTE! DOWLOAD FOR FULL SIZE!

* Fixing in post refers to post-production. Post production is everything that happens after filming: editing, music, sound fx, visual fx, etc. Everything that needs to be cut and put together for the final film.

A little follow up to the previous page.

Not so much discussion about storyboards, but wondering why certain choices were made.
Could it be the movie had to make budget choices?

Everything here is just pure speculation, of course.

Nah, the series will still exist and stand on its own despite the movie.

Yeah well of course, you're right Nothing can destroy that series. But I have to admit... I'm still not sure that I wanna go see it... Let me now if it's good or bad will you? Then I can decide. Toodles!

For the live action film, it is a purely subjective thing: some people like it, others don't, and there's the whole gray area in between the two. Personally, I found problems with it that stopped me from fully enjoying it.
Once again, it is purely subjective.

Yeah, of course I'll go see it. I'll just try not to get my hopes up. But something I do look forward to is the new spinoff-series. You don't know when it's about to air do you?

And the best part is that they made everything 3d after the fact (so I heard), which made the film visually inferior

rufftoon In reply to superpower-pnut [2010-08-18 17:11:53 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say it made the visual inferiors, but it certainly didn't add anything to it.

Your pessimism was spot on for this movie. I couldn't sit through the whole thing i got as far as the air temple scene. i mean they couldn't say his name right what was that

I was actually looking forward to the film! I was cautiously optimistic about it.
That's before I saw it. Then I started scratching my head and wondered what happened.

I feel like that if they did have to make budget choices, they still could have made a decent Airbender movie. It seems that most of the problems were poor acting and bad camera cuts and pans and stuff. I may be wrong though, and that stuff may cost tons of money, but I really doubt it.

It is possible to make a good movie within a set budget, you are very right.
As for the movie'S problems, you do point out quite a few of the obvious ones.

One of the most iconic points of a Rhino is it's horn. Heck, they could have given it one horn and it would still work. A Rhino without a horn is pathetic. Then again, Haru without his facial hair is definitely more appealing (thank you by the way, for making Haru shave off that rodent growing on his face)..... er, so I guess in the end it is a design thing. ^_^;

rufftoon In reply to Cerise-Angel [2010-08-17 17:00:02 +0000 UTC]

The movie only covers season one, so I took Haru's season one design.
If M. Night goes all the way to season 3, Haru may just have his sexyfine mustache

Did they make budget cuts to characters? Because there were no characters...just people walking around saying things. yeah, I'm annoyed. Also I freakin' love that floating rock! That was the best part of the film!

If they make a sequel, I want that floating rock to return. It will replace the Cabbage Guy as cameo.

The rock is back.

Good speculation. I am also assuming that they didn't work hard enough to gain more funds OR nobody wanted to invest in it as Night's streak was awful. I even made a graph of Rotten Tomatoes percentages. Night consistently went downhill.

I didn't realise those giant geckos were komodo rhinos minus horns O_o My mum and I were like "Did they EVER had those things??" And the final scene, my mum was like "What's with the waves coming up to tsunami level then going back down, and everyone going 'OOOOOOOOOOHHHH!' while the fire nation army 'That was epic let's leave'" Words cannot describe how upset my mum was.

That marching group of people with a rock flying over the screen definitely had me laugh after getting stunned for 3 seconds.... And as for that whole fighting sequence at the Kyoshi village (really? It looked really different, I hardly recognize it until i read the wikipedia), the whole scene is epic, confusing, weird (as for how the fire and wind attack didnt actually coordinate accordingly to the actor's movements like in the cartoon)... Mixed all together, we have a EPIC CONFUSING LAUGH.

Damn, my rant can go on and on every part of this movie (in fact, I deleted half of my comments...). But still, I will say the continuous shot on the last epic battle where Aang goes freezing people all the way is very well done. ... Anyway, I think Night had given too much hope on the post production and the special effect. Though I REALLY wanted to know how Michael and Bryan responded to this movie... Is there any news about it? I wanna read! Lately reading bad reviews on TLA had been my addiction.. which is a very weird addiction if you ask me.

Still... Love the rock flying over in the last panel. It just have to continue flying!

Your craving for reviews must be filled, what with the UK opening of the film.
I believe the only Mike and Bryan have said about the film was...that they were too busy at the moment working on the new Korra project.

It's sad when a director uses the excuse of 'We were out of funds' to poorly cover up a complete mess.

Shouldn't they know to lay out the budget plan so that the Komodo Rhinos could get their horns?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rufftoon In reply to Kiki-Tayler [2010-08-17 05:45:59 +0000 UTC]

Mind you, that's pure speculation. The komodo Rhino's lack of horn may be a design thing...which I can't explain why they would change if they were going to be somewhat faithful to Appa and Momo.

"We'll Fix it in Post"
You know in my Audiovisual Production classes (yes, I study Audiovisual Production) we have been told, repetedely, that "We'll fix it in Post" is a myth and we should Never, Ever, Ever, Ever let it be. My teachers, and guests insist that we should correct the mistakes during pre-production and filming

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rufftoon In reply to Maki-P [2010-08-17 04:35:07 +0000 UTC]

I can only echo a resounding "YES!" to that.
Worse that could happen would be to have to reshoot something, but never ever count on trying to fix your problems in post.
