Description NOTE! DOWLOAD FOR FULL SIZE!

* Fixing in post refers to post-production. Post production is everything that happens after filming: editing, music, sound fx, visual fx, etc. Everything that needs to be cut and put together for the final film.

A little follow up to the previous page.
[link]

Not so much discussion about storyboards, but wondering why certain choices were made.
Could it be the movie had to make budget choices?

Everything here is just pure speculation, of course.

Sometimes, it's hard to judge until the very last moment if something needs to be cut or not. It all happens in post!

'He'll fix it in post" I love that 8'D
In my film and television class, we get the newer students saying that, and all the older ones want to throw something at them, we NEVER hesitate to scold them about how much of a HORRIBLE idea that is! SO THIS IS LOVE <3

There is only so much post prod can fix. The newer students may have to learn that the hard way.

Best parts: KOMODO RHINO MISSES HORNS, and the rock still chasing those firebenders at the speed of slug. I totally wasn't expecting it, and almost laughed my head straight off. 5/5, A+, and all that other stuff!

Love this comic, the bottom panel the best.

I'm been wanting to say one thing though that struck me when I was evaluating/watching the movie, I more put the blame on Nick on this one. They're great with animated stuff but from my memory, anything they have made that was live action and put in the movie theaters, they've not let it go much over 90 minutes and have done reeeeealy poorly with everything in it. I haven't liked any of their movies (that I realize are their movies) that are live action and had at one point been in theaters.

And a slightly random though, I think it really irritated me when they decided that Aang was told he couldn't have a family. OK, stopping before I start looking back at what I remember from the beginning of the summer and watching it.

Let's just say that I did find a way to look at it and like it but not love it.

*watches the rock chase the fire nation soldiers*

Hmmm...I haven't paid much attention to the different live action movies from Nick except Last Airbender. Got to think there's also the weight of Paramount behind it too, but I don't know if we should say they share the blame.

I can't remember the exact design of the prison camp, but they certainly were surrounded by rocks.
Or, in their case, ammunition

I've done some 3D before, and the difference between 1 rock and 10 rocks flying in a straight line isn't a huge deal. The rock wall that came up to block the fireball was well done - more of that, please.

Also, the water and firebending effects "dragging" behind the actor's movements - seeming to be pulled instead of pushed - is just poor timing and execution. ILM has fallen pretty far...the WETA interns could have done better. Seriously, the effects could've been breathtaking.

M. Night implied that he holds all sequel rights. Maybe we'll get a Stephen Chow chinese-language reboot - somebody start a petition!

rufftoon In reply to mase0ne [2010-08-16 21:30:58 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. M.Night must have written a solid contract, since Last Airbender is not his property but the studio's. Maybe some high end producer or studio executive could kick him out, but they'd probably have to pay compensation.

mase0ne In reply to rufftoon [2010-08-16 22:43:58 +0000 UTC]

I can't remember the exact quote, but he stated during a Last Airbender interview that he takes a pay cut in order to keep the sequel rights to "all of his movies" so that no one else...messes up his vision. *pause for head shaking*
Just clarifying, as he didn't say it outright.

This movie has no excuse, budget wise. 150 million dollars according to Box office mojo. It had a big budget and it didn't know how to use it. The first Lord of the Rings movie had a production budget of 93 million. This movie had a bigger budget than the first LOTR movie!
