Apologies in advance.

More writing than drawing in this one. Just thought it would be interesting to compare the two scenes, the original animated series one with the movie version.

Though there were no obvious problems with the screen directions per say, it was the whole action- reaction and timing that was awkward in the movie.
Notice that for the animated series, we don't even see one earthbender doing one attack, and yet it is clear and makes sense.

Screen direction in storyboards, cutting and editing is very important. It is the link between the chains of events. It connects with the 180 degree rule :
[link]

Please note that this rule can be broken in service to the story, for emotional effect, etc.

As for the "Macarena" in panel 6, I blame this video:

By Legend of Korra, bending arts began to mimic modern martial arts, with Bolin acting like a real boxer and using quick attacks that don't leave him vulnerable.ย  You have to wonder how THEY would react to that scene.

I honestly hated the last airbender movie. Forgive me, but here are my reasons:
1: Poor bending. (As evidence with the lone rock) there was so much movement, flipping and spinning, yet weak bending. Only the fire benders got it remotely right.
2: Bad (and I mean bad) acting. Seriously, might as well put wooden planks with their faces painted on them up there instead.
3: Appa and Momo are hardly included. All you see is quarter view shots or distance shots of them, never straight on. It's as if they weren't really involved with the story.
4: extremely rushed. I can understand not being able to include everything (it is the entire first season in one after all), but the montage of their adventures just killed it for me. It was like "Here's all the things you're missing out on, but we won't/cant explain them."
I could go on.
All in all, I give it a 1 out of five stars. If you haven't seen the original series, you might get a kick out of it. If you love the show, you might not want to take the time to watch it.
Still, this is my opinion. You don't have to take my word for it. Sorry, just had to rant

-giggles-

The world may never know.

Also, no. No you can not dodge the rock. its a heat sensing rock. and since you cant -make- something for it to follow...run little firebender! run! XD

I almost feel bad for leaving a comment because of how many comments you get, but just - - Haru! Haru! Haru!

I took a storyboarding class back in high school. I think I learned more in this piece than I did in that whole class.

It was actually at Art Center in Los Angeles (luckily I lived in the area), a program they had called "Saturday High." So it was only once a week for a semester. Still, it was great. I'm sure if I had been less crazy at the time, I could have gotten more out of the class.

It's the pebble dance!

That scene in the movie made me face palm. Actually, the whole movie made me face palm.

Thanks for the short lesson in story boarding!

All the effort those Derpbenders put in and they just moved one moderately-sized rock through the air at the speed of a gently babbling brook.

Heeh Macarena! Reaaly, the first time I saw this scene I started to lough, then to cry, then to lough again. The worst earthbending EVER.

I think they're moving like the "Haka", it's a sort of intimidation for the ennemy (well, rock people is a bit...savage ?).
I'm a french, i like this movie (even if i laugh to your differents pictures ^^) and i hope that Night will doing an Avatar 2.

Oh God, when I went to see the movie I remember bursting out laughing at that moment when all the earthbenders wher YA YA YA *STOMP STOMP STOMP* and the small rock flew by, like, all that trouble for a single rock. Of course then by logic you realize they made the wall and the guy that pos out is responsible for the rock, but it made me chuckle in the middle of the theatre. Glad to know i wasn't wrong.

Also, fire sucked :C

Man, I was so excited for this movie, and so, so let down. Seriously. It takes a troupe of Earthbenders 30 seconds of spinning and stomping to throw one small rock. One of them should have just picked it up and thrown it by hand.
