Description After an embarrassingly long time (March of last year long time), I finally got around to finishing this guy. Meet Tarpit. He's a critter for a kaiju universe that I've been playing with for awhile, though I haven't done any proper comics for it yet. He's actually a goopy, shapeless tar-beast that burst out of La Brea, but he's got lots of kaiju bones hiding in his goop that he's put to use to give himself a face and proper limbs.

Mostly, he's gotten punched in the face by giant robots for his efforts. Poor Tarpit.

I legit had a dream with a beasty looking similar to this, my brain must've borrowed some inspiration, it was spooky. I absolutely love this design, such an awesome looking character and the idea behind him is pretty darn neat too. Nicely done!

Ohh, I like-y!  (Though given my brief research trip to the George C. Page Museum's collections when I was working on my Paleontology BS, I might be a little partial to ghastly critters from the asphalt seeps).  I'd imagine those ground sloth claws would come in pretty handy, too!

Tarpit's inspiration comes from the huge wall of dire wolf skulls there; I saw that in a prehistoric creatures documentary as kid and it had an impact on me. I'd love to see it in person someday. But yep, he's full of all sorts of handy pointy bits. Isn't nature, even in dead, tarry form, great?

Yes, yes it is!

And I do hope you get to see the Page Museum eventually - the wall 'o skulls is probably my favorite paleontological exhibit display that I've seen, and I can definitely relate to how much it can influence a curious mind!

Heh, the concept of this kinda reminds me of a monster from monster hunter, going by the name of the Narkarkos, a giant cuttlefish monster who coveres itself in bones, it likes to make its 2 front tentacles look like a spooky 2 headed dragon.

I love his design! Will you be drawing more of him?

I'd like to; I've decided he has a neat trick where he can pop up multiple skulls if he needs them. Drawing giant robot pilots reacting to that would be fun.

I sort of have a bunch of rough ideas for the kaijuniverse but only a shoe-string of a plot; I might start doing one-off comics of them here and there. Really, Rampage coming out is what made me go '...I REALLY need to post this guy already.'
