For people from the future who still speak English (because I can't edit my post!)
First, English (from right to left): Galactic Federation ration 40 - Red (though literally, it's Summer) Berry (flavor)- Only 95 calories!Β
Now, SSI transliterated into Latin Alphabet (from right to left): Abdalakbyz Radzhon 50 - Prazhny Boda - Doly 137 kal!Β

Nobody in Space Cadet can speak English. They don't even understand the characters on the Archaeoprobe or the Lunar Tablet.Β

Well, I was hoping that people looking for a translation of the art would look there within the lifespan of the latin alphabet at least...Β

It's an "Abdalakbyz"-touted fruit bar. Great. "(r?)a(d/f)zhon ?o" "(d/f)ol(j/y) 137 kal!" "Prazhn(j/y) Bo(d/f)a"
No points for "kal = calories", yes? And "(d/f)ol(j/y)" is probably "only". "radzhon = ration" (probably), "?o" could be "bar" I guess, but that could also be "Bo(d/f)a" maybe.Β
And yes, 95 calories DOES sound pretty good!Β
Edit: Just realized, "?o" could actually just be 50. So it's the 40th (or has 40 of) something.Β
(In related news, I really hope that we can get those fonts when you totally complete them, although the "code-cracker but seriously man it's in a future language" job is pretty fun.)
Current thoughts on literal translation: "Federation of the Galaxy Ration 40, Fruit Bar, Only 95 calories!" (Or "Galactic Federation", of course.)

That's a pretty close translation. You only got "fruit bar" wrong.
As for the fonts, I will make them available. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding free software that can make font files.

If the error's just in "fruit", "Prazhny" could be berry, or maybe something else having to do with fruit. Maybe small berries. I'm inclined to go with berries for this.
If it's just in "bar", "Bo(d/f)a" could be more like "flavor", maybe.Β
If it's just in the translation-minus-context, that might be "bar of fruit", but I think that's not true.Β

The error is that it doesn't mean fruit bar or anything like it at all.

Gotcha. Hey, I got ~85 percent of it right with prior knowledge and the sheets (and one of the other comments), so that's gotta count for something right?Β
Is it related to nutrition and/or tastiness?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
hgfggg In reply to RvBOMally [2016-05-27 00:13:39 +0000 UTC]
So Prazhny might mean something related to flavor (Delicious!), or berries maybe.
Silly side note: "ΠΡΠ°Π·Π½ΠΉ", when I tried to find a translation (I found none for the same word with ΠΆ instead of Π·, and no it doesn't make sense to look up a translation I know), in Bulgarian according to google translate, is "The Empty". Tastes Empty!
Maybe Bo(d/f)a is berry/berries?Β

Awesome. Maybe Prazhny is "flavored", "just like", or possibly "imitation".Β

RvBOMally In reply to hgfggg [2016-05-27 02:01:09 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Technically, it means what we'd call "summer berries," but more literally means "red berries." The concept of seasons don't even exist in the interstellar languages, because they don't exist in space.Β

I've tried to translate it, and yet I can't get much that makes sense. "RAMZHON 50"? "ABDALAKBYZ"? "ABFALAKBYTS"?

taste "fake"?
I'm guessing that's a bit like budget soft drinks that claim to be coke and lemonade but when you drink them you can clearly tell they are not coke and lemonade despite some similarities?

Speaking as someone who survives primarily off Scottish shortbread and bacon sandwiches, this has served to highlight what a hellish dystopia the Federation truly is.Β
Also cracking job on the SSI alphabet. I take it these are actual words and not just an english transliteration? Also amusing to see that the Feds' sigil spam goes far enough that they stick in on cereal bars.Β

RvBOMally In reply to CastleGreifenghast [2016-05-16 23:45:58 +0000 UTC]
Hah, a real man's diet. I like it! The Federation does eat pork (incidentally, all of the modern religions that ban its consumption are extinct), but most people just eat vat meat (the closest OTL equivalent would be Spam). I hope you won't miss beef too much. Β
These are actual words, which do mean something. Some are rather obvious and are surprisingly recognizable. Others, not so much. If you want to try translating it, here are the two guides you'll need:Β rvbomally.deviantart.com/art/Mβ¦ andΒ rvbomally.deviantart.com/art/Mβ¦
As for the sigil spam, this is issued by the Starfleet to its sailors, so that does make sense. Β

It's got all of the nutrition you need to replace a meal. Convenient for space travel, the military, and for feeding far-off worlds.Β

I take it everyone eating these things and some of the other meals and foods you have mentioned in other Space Cadet works are the result of attempts at efficentcy eg reducing waste of space and resources so that very large populations can be fed?
π: 0 β©: 1
RvBOMally In reply to PersephoneEosopoulou [2016-05-17 02:53:33 +0000 UTC]
Efficiency and longevity is key in space travel. While faster than light travel is quick, it's still long enough that most food will spoil. Transporting food to far-off colonies requires food that does not take up much space and keeps for centuries. Space travel can also take a long while, and the same restrictions apply.Β

That makes a lot of sense.
I should probably take that into consideration why my own setting now that I think of it given the type of ftl I've set up for it (A wormhole-battlesphere network with slow short ranged ftl for system to system level travel)
