Description

The Akurian Gogrum class battlecarrier is basically a modified Zikar class light Battleship with a reduced armament in exchange for enlarged hangar space to carry fighters and additional scout drones. However the Gogrum is an extremely tight design, even more so than the Zikar, and this has led to significant compromises with the ship. The deign requirements wanted to retain the full main battery of 18 200 cm main guns, however the external size remained quite limited to continue to fit in class 3 docks. It also needed to retain the same speed, as a result it has the same engine plant as a Zikar, These tight requirements meant that adding hangar space meant sacrificing most of the missile capacity as well as reducing the number of secondary and defensive guns. This is considered an acceptable sacrifice as the fighters provide additional defensive capability.

However another limitation of the design is that the magazine size for fighter ordinance is very limited, as a result the ship is incapable of supporting strike craft and lancers as its small craft magazines cannot fit antiship missiles or lance bombs. So its squadrons are incapable of engaging in anti shipping strikes except for against very lightly protected small warships that would be vulnerable to damage from anti fighter missiles. And even then anti fighter missiles are sub optimal for engaging such warships.

These drawbacks combined with the fact that light battleships themselves are not as widely used meant that the Grogum never saw widespread serial production, only a handful of prototypes as well as the occasional odd example used by a local self defense self Defense forces where ever produced.
