Description

Here is a Sekere class super battleship, a very large battleship with a mass of over 520 million metric tons, armed with thirty 290 cm main guns and a ton of missiles and secondaries. Although battleships in this size category had existed for along time in the OISU and in the nations that existed before the OISU, the Sekere class is the first to reach widespread production. Previous super battleship tended to see very small production runs and where only used for limited roles, as there wasn't as much of a need for such vessels. However times have changed. The OISU now needs to exert influence over larger regions of space and this requires ships capable of operating at longer ranges and at further distances from resupply bases. As a result the Sekere class, due to its larger hull, has nearly double the operational range of smaller battleships, and is capable of going for longer without major overhauls.

But it is also designed to counter similar tonnage warships from the OISU's current chief rivals, the GCR. Because most GCR warships of this size category are Super Fleet Carriers, the Sekere Class has a larger proportion of its tonnage devoted to long range missiles, and its protection is thick and sturdy enough that there is little that carrier strike craft can do to it without truly suffering horrific losses. While it doesn't have the speed to catch the carriers directly, and it isn't 100% immune to strike craft attacks, it would take two super fleet carriers worth of strike craft to be able to achieve a mission kill against a Sekere class, mostly in the form of knocking out most of the Sekere's sensor emplacements. And the carriers would likely lose most of their strike craft in the process, thus also being mission killed, and without strike craft, they would be much more vulnerable to being hunted down and destroyed outrigth by Battlecruisers and Dreadnought cruisers, which do have the speed to catch the carriers. Especially if a missile counter attack slips through the fighter screen and hits the carriers in return.

Sensors, except for optical systems, by their nature cannot be armored, though they woulds till be protected by a very strong energy shield systems and defense fields, so even mission killing a Sekere by neutralizing its sensors is not an easy task. Plus the sensor antennas themselves are not super expensive or difficult to replace, as the most expensive parts are the signal processing equipment and computer systems, which are placed under the armor protection, and relatively safe from enemy fire. Thus a Sekere that loses most of its sensor antenna can have them replaced in short order, typically no more than a week or two. And like any OISU ship, it also carries high magnification thermal/optical camera's and laser range finding equipment, which can be armored and thus much harder to knock out. Thus an attack than knocks out most of the other sensors on the ship is unlikely to knock out the optical and laser systems, and although these systems are fairly short ranged for fire control purposes, they are hardier than other systems and thus less likely to be knocked out.

Thus the Sekere class battleship is able to operate as a useful ship to counter enemy carrier forces, (especially with battlecruiser or Dreadnought cruiser support), despite the ship itself not being fast enough to catch most carriers. Because a carrier with an empty hangar deck isn't much use for anything.
