Description
The UAF Zodungo class Heavy fleet escort is fairly typical for a fleet escort of the OISU, even if its construction methods are fairly different. It features eight quad 64 cm guns as its main armament, which for a spaceship is a fairly lightweight multipurpose rapid firing gun system effective against lightly armored warships and against small craft or missiles. Which being a fleet escort its primary role is to assist in dealing with lighter warships and small craft. Like any fleet Escort it is not a ship you want to take into a head to head fight against ships with very big scary guns and high levels of armor, like a battleship. Doing so will result in your shells making nice neat little dings in the enemy ships paintwork while his big guns proceed to make big nasty holes in your hull. Likewise taking on massed strike craft attacks alone and unsupported is a great way for your family to cash in early on any life insurance policies, but not great for long term health. Against strike craft, you work best when teaming up with tankier ships that can take the hits while your guns and missiles help him by thinning out the swarm so its not so overwhelming.Β
Oh yeah and be sure to blow up at least some GCR owned equipment, because those guys oppressed your homeland and they deserve to get blown up.

Looking at the design, it appears to me that the quad 64cm guns are laid out with 1 gun on top of another in a sort of square layout? It seems a bit odd, considering that a 64cm round, though very much in the small side in your universe, is not an insubstantial thing. Does this have something to do with why the guns are spread apart quite a bit in the horizontal direction, since because the guns are stacked on top of each other they canβt feed from below, and feeding from behind is not exactly the most practical thing considering that these guns are meant to be rapid fire.
What I mean is, feeding from behind seems to run into the problem of once the projectile is at the same height as the gun, it needs another separate action to ram it into the barrel, while bottom feed is blocked by the other gun, and feeding from the top and bottom is quite impractical compared to a side feed similar to what is seen with belt fed MGβs in our world.
Also, there is a difference between an twin mount and a 2 gun mount, a triple mount and a 3 gun mount, and so on. Basically in twin, triple, and so on mounts the guns are all part of the same carriage, meaning that they cannot elevate independently of each other, unlike an 2 gun or 3 gun mount in which the individual barrels can move independently in the vertical axis. Not many people know about this difference, and using it may confuse others but, the more you know....

The ironic thing is that I had just watched the dry dock episode where Drachinifel had just answered that question when I wrote that comment.
Are the guns stacked on top of each other? Because that would seem to prevent the stacked guns for being able to elevate independently...

Cool, and I didnβt consider that you watch Drachinifel as well.
