Haha yeah I'm back from the dead xD I literally laughed aloud when I read that
And thank you very much! <3 <3Β Β the reference pic I used I took at my friends' house. They get amazing sunsets out there, like, way better than around my house even though I only live like 15-20 minutes away -_- the difference between suburbs and the country.

Hahaha, I feel you, I have the same experience at my parents' town; inside the town you're bored to death by all the dull and grey colours, but go walking for like 5 mins towards the countryside and suddenly you're greeted with a beautiful view (Unless it's storming... then it isn't pretty... and you also shouldn't be walking
)

Right? And lol, storms can bring pretty views Most of the time at least.

Pretty views right up until the moment an unidentified flying debris or a tree branch hits you in the face

Haha well at least they can say I went out with a bang ;D
Never been hit with debris but I almost got struck by lightning once. My friend and I were out playing in a storm and just when we stepped back through the door lightning hit the street where we were just splashing around, about 30 feet from us in the doorway.

Oh, yikes, would've pissed my pants if that happened to me Though apparently several years ago something similar happened; while I was on a chair lift in Austria, it got hit by a lightning strike. My parents claim they could see the sparks on the ropes. Didn't see it myself (luckily enough), was mostly just pissed about the lift being stalled (single seat chair lift, completely out in the open, while being in the middle of a thunderstorm...)

Thank you I used Gimp's dynamic setting "perspective" and checked the "incremental" box. Never before has grass been so easy to drawΒ Β Β

Lemme know how it works out for you :3 Also, when you're doing the grass's shading/lighting, use the dodge/burn tool (it's a miracle worker my friend). Then you can add light-opacity hues in various places (I used an extremely light-opacity purple and gold in different areas of the grass (mostly the corners)). It's not enough to really tell it's there unless you're looking for it, but it's enough to give the picture depth

From my experience the authors have found me--or, we unintentionally found each other (I almost did another kids book before but it didn't work out).
It's best to go through a publisher instead of an author though, like send some of your work into a few. Most of the time publishers (at least in the US) match up the book with an artist on file themselves. From what I've read they tend to disregard any artwork sent in by the author (unless the author illustrated it themselves).
On that note you could just write a few yourself and illustrate them Not only is that brownie points when trying to publish a kids book, but it's also a good way to get your foot in the door asΒ an illustrator for publishers. It's a thought

Thanks for explaining! Makes me even more excited to start looking into the world of book illustration But first, I think I'll have to practice a bit more to make drawings that fit children's books, because I haven't done that much yet
*grabs my favourite old children's books out of bookcase* I can start there I guess :3

You're welcome! ^^
Haha, true that. Piece of advice from experience: make sure you're drawing your art style, or one that you enjoy. Because it's really no fun when you change your art style to something you don't really care for just because it matches preexisting children-book-styles. In fact, when I did that I really hated it... If you like changing styles though, then by all means, go for it
Personally I think your current style would make a beautiful children's book though

Yes I totally agree with that you should keep your own style Though I'm not too sure mine would really fit, but I'm glad you think it would be a nice style for children's books!
Or maybe I'm just not really used to modern children's books, but I'm used to the old ones from my time with line drawings or water colour, which is also really pretty :3

I didn't read much growing up but the only pretty art style I remember was The Rainbow Fish, otherwise the styles were kinda sketchy, scratchy, messy, or super unrealistic (I didn't like styles like that when I was younger, they can be alright now though).
My favorite kids book style was Dr. Seuss xD It wasn't particularly pretty and was still kinda sketchy-looking, but it was very unique and weird, I loved the strange landscapes and trees.
And ya know what, as long as people read it, it fits Let me know if and when you ever make/illustrate a book btw, I'll buy a copy
