Thank you, it's shots like this that prove that with almost all shots you focus and then move before actually taking the shot, resulting in a good shot but not truly sharp. If this is what my lens is capable of then why aren't all my images this sharp?

It certainly isn't the lens or cameras fault

I have the self same problem! Not convinced yet that the lens that came on my Canon is good enough though. It's infuriating that I think I got better quality pics with my old Sony with its Carl Zeiss lens than I am now that I've upgraded to Canon

Yes I've seen the same comment from lots of people about the standard lens, it's such a shame when it's the most important part

This is a really beautiful shot. The detail is fab, the colors amazing and I, too, would love to know what kind of a bird this is as I have never seen anything like it before.

Thank you, that's the disappointing thing, it was taken at Birdland (Bourton on the Water) but it wasn't mentioned on any of the signs so if anyone knows what it is please let me know
