Massive file is massive o_e.-pants- THERE. -pants- I... I DID IT, EM. I FINIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISHED. -dies-
-revives- Ahem. Well, ~EmmarilGreenleaf has threatened asked me to put together this preset tutorial. It's VERY basic and I'm VERY lazy and VERY bad at teaching and making tutorials o_e. There are probably a million typos and small errors that I don't feel like rectifying. I'm just glad I got this finished... whew.
I was originally going to make a tutorial out of a friend's preset, but... that thing is frustrating me. Sorry, Kisu, but calicos are HARD. It'll be a while until you get that preset from me o_e.
So here, Em. BE HAPPY THAT I AM IN PAIN -dies again-.

Side note: This character is a new character I've recently adopted, more info on her later :3. For now, I'll just tell you her name which is Gliriel. As you see.

Yes, this can be done in Photoshop, GIMP, SAI, or any other program that supports layers.

Did you configure it to open in Notepad? Originally, the file is not set to do so and you have to change it manually.

... Copied? You shouldn't have to copy anything. You should just be able to open the material file itself up in notepad.

Hm... It won't work as a simple notepad text file. When you right click and hit open with, it should come up with a dialog box with "Recommended Programs" where it would have notepad listed. If it doesn't do that... then I'm not sure what's going on.

I just went to the reference folder and it has an eye UV map. Just open that up in your editing program and you can color over it, just make sure you don't save over the original file xD.

Okay, then I got another question for you: Which are you colouring over? The referance that looks like a net, or the texture file with like all the hairs and stuff?

Okay, so I made my preset, but it has no fur texture and there's a seam that is going down the middle....how the heck do I fix all of that? Oh and how would I go about putting a design on the forehead?

Ok, for the texture, you painted over the cbodyShade and stuff like that, yes? If you still have the .psd with the layers, then just change the opacity of each layer to 80 or 90 percent. That will allow the shading texture underneath to show through them.
About the seam, you know the UV maps? Well, color just outside of those lines, that seam you see is simply because your color didn't quite cover the whole mesh >>. I forgot to mention that, sorry xD;.
