Description
The sixth assignment for my still life drawing course: a favorite piece of clothing rendered in a strong, raking light. The idea was to demonstrate the chiaroscuro technique. According to one definition, chiaroscuro is
"The dramatic effect of contrasting areas of light and dark in an artwork, particularly paintings. It comes from the combination of the Italian words for "light" and "dark."

I chose to do a drawing based off a varsity jacket I own. It has a nice, satiny texture and is one of my favorite articles of clothing I own. It's a little known-fact about me, but I adore varsity jackets, particularly ones that have intricate embroidered designs on the front or back (the ones with animals look soooo cool). I think they're very elegant, and I discovered I liked them when they came into fashion a year or two back.
I think the drawing worked out pretty well (credit in part to my sister's artistic guidance), but man, drawing clothing realistically is no laughing matter. I have to admire anyone who can portray the folds, wrinkles, and varying shades in clothing convincingly.

The drawing was done in graphite pencil.
