Description
Looks like someone stayed up the whole night working. You really should get more sleep, Gaster. For anyone who's stayed up working into the wee hours of morning.Fanart for 's Undertale comic series Handplates. If you haven't read it, please do.
zarla.deviantart.com/gallery/5β¦
This took me a bit longer to make than I intended. I wish I could say I was better at shading, but light and shading effects were always challenging for me. I've had this idea for a while though, and finally got some time to sit down and make it happen. And yes, that's a coffee mug he's holding. There's probably still a few drops in there.
Art was done entirely digitally in Paint Tool SAI.
Handplates is Zarla's creation.
Undertale belongs to Toby Fox.

Aww. Β
I don't know if he would secretly feel touched or slightly embarrassed once he woke up. Maybe both. X 3

Greetings.
I can easily relate to this image, as I am not averse to just curling up beside my reading, study, or sketchbooks on my bed and just taking a little nap - for an unintentionally variable amount of hours.
Speaking of being quite-immediately unconscious, one's glasses tend to have a habit of going askew whichever way they want across one's face while they're blissfully asleep (either of the little nosepads also go horribly awry and tend not to be able to be righted afterward). On that same note, it's somewhat hard to tell whether you'd wanted Gaster's glasses here to be similarly crooked due to him sleeping with them on, or if they were meant to visually remain straight. They do look just a slight bit off, which makes things difficult to tell your intent.
Another factor is that he still seems to have a solid grip on his coffee cup. While this could be taken as a bit of humor, when one is unconscious their grip tends to go slack - and that bit of added detail could strengthen that 'image of rest' seen here.
Also, lastly, I find that I often struggle with any depiction of notes, open books, or pages near Gaster (in any artwork I've done so far), because I falter under the impression that said surfaces must contain something inherently interesting or fascinating. Moreover, any personal eccentricity, note-taking habits, marginalia, encryption, or concrete mathematical notes or musing would easily go well beyond my ability to gauge - heh. I'll have to contend with this as I go about my own projects.
What I mean to say is: I wish I could do the same as you and just make 'generic page indication' doodles.

Well, I draw based on what "looks okay" to me, and the glasses had seemed all right in my eyes, so they were left the way they are. And yes, the fact that he still has a tight grip on his mug was for humor, haha. Thanks for the feedback, though. I'm still learning. ^_^ '

Quite alright. I know just what it's like trying to have things be correct - and I also know what it's like to come back to an image after I am working on it and I've taken a break.... And wonder how I missed (or messed up) on this detail or that.
The path of any artist is a trail on which there are plenty of things to trip. I guess the same goes for engineering, and mathematicians and... Gaster?
Wait, if he can manifest his magic quickly enough, does it mean he can trip, but not necessarily hit the ground like the rest of us gravity-bound people?
A stroke of lucky reflex and grace, for him.

I do lots of tripping in my art, haha. And then get right back up again. X 3

I'd be right parallel to you on my path of comic development. That whole effort is like an obstacle course. Uphill. (Maybe in a snowstorm, at night, both ways.).
Oh, what we do for the concepts and characters we respect.

Not really sure. They'd have to be out of their cell, so maybe they'd try to escape. : P
