This wasn't exactly in my drawing plans, but something about 's Handplates comic from yesterday "In yet another timeline" left me in a funk.It sorta prompted me to make this simple thing, and strangely enough, doing so has made me feel somewhat better. Sometimes I believe drawing is like an alternative to crying.
This is my first time experimenting with zarla’s sketchy pencil shading effect. It’s kind of nice; maybe I’ll try it again in the future.
Design & Handplates belong to zarla, Undertale belongs to Toby Fox.

He's probably thinking of many things... How happy he could have been as a father for the Skelebros., how stuck he is right now because he doesn't have a choice... And how he doesn't deserve the skelebros's forgiveness... He is so lost. This is so simple yet so sad. Great job, partner.

Gaster is probably thinking all those things. I think I must have felt his hopelessness to have been prompted to make this.
I had actually felt a little uncertain about posting this at first, to be honest. I was worried that people would think it a little melodramatic
or silly, but it's actually gotten quite a nice reception. I have a very encouraging group of watchers.

Also, I like to imagine this must take place after on of his torturous experiments with the Skelebros? I am willing to bet it must hurt on him just as much as it hurts on them...

Well, the comic it's inspired from, "In yet another timeline" does take place after the events of Handplates, long after the skelebros have escaped. And Gaster's past actions probably do hurt him. It must be a terrible feeling.

Well, he was feeling pretty low, and I guess I was feeling sad for him, too. My feelings needed to let themselves out somehow.
To be honest, I think the part of that comic that got to me the most was when Gaster flatly stated that nobody needed people like him. It was kinda hard not to feel his unhappiness after hearing such a self-loathing thing out of him.
That, and his belief that he could never be forgiven for the things he did.

Anyway, while we're waiting out the Handplates hiatus, maybe I can interest you in a Handplates fanfic someone's been writing exploring how things may have played out had Gaster chosen "mercy" over "fight." It's still in progress, and the time of the next update is unknown, but it's something I like sharing with people who I think might enjoy it.

I've just spent the afternoon reading it, I ADORE it! Thanks for bringing it to my attention, the writer shines such an interesting light on Gaster and gives him a fascinating backstory!
