Thank you!

Sadly, no - I don't use patterns for any of my dolls.. but I do intend to start making some over this summer.

You're better than me - I usually wimp out and make chibi characters Puff stitch hands, here we come

This is beautiful! Do you take commissions, and if so how much would you charge for something like this?

salshep In reply to TheSleepyMonster [2013-10-24 01:28:06 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I have actually been putting some thought to this lately.. and I'm not sure yet. I had planned to keep each piece completely unique, but I've had a lot of requests for some, mostly Tumnus, ha.

I'll let you know what I decide, though!

This is so adorable~! <3 I always loved Mr. Tumnus so much. Everything about this is just too cute for words, and I love the amount of detail put into it.

I love everything about this- the realistic face shape, the hands (and how you got the thumb and fingers to line up just right), the ears, the horns, the satyr legs, the scarf.  Yes.  Wonderful.

salshep In reply to SadDaysCrochet [2013-07-19 02:27:27 +0000 UTC]

Awh, thanks very much for your kind words (I am a fan of your own work, btw)! Hands.. oy.. I must have a hundred little disembodied woolly hands scattered about the place, with all the practise ones I did. So I'm very glad these look okay. lol.

Oh, I love the legs! The contrasting fur looks amazing, and his cloven hooves are to die for! Such a cutie!

salshep In reply to MilesofCrochet [2013-07-19 01:29:23 +0000 UTC]

Lol, he is pretty cute, lots of fun to make. The legs were a bit challenging (and probably not quite as perfect as I'd like them) but I'm glad folks think they worked out okay.

SilverTwilight05 [2013-07-18 13:38:45 +0000 UTC]

Amazing job, and such detail (individual fingers omg!).  How tall is he?  With the abundance of stitches I am able to see, he is either rather tall or was made with fine thread, a great feat either way.  Great job!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

salshep In reply to SilverTwilight05 [2013-07-19 01:21:50 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! And um.. he'd be about 12-13 inches tall (I really must measure him..) and yup, I used a fine bamboo thread and a small hook. The thread has such a lovely soft feel to it, and crochets up to a smooth texture. So lovely to work with.

The fingers are a bit of a pain (working with just 4 small stitches in the round, oi), but I've made so many now that it isn't such a hassle. Still, I wish the magical finger-making fairies would come do it all for me, sometimes.

Omg I haven't seen that movie in so long. I used to love Mr. Tumnus when I was little. It looks really good! I'm in the mood to watch the movie now again.

I so loved the movie! I was a big fan of the books when I was little, too. Mr. Tumnus was always my favourite.

This popped in in my group watch messages today. At first I thought it was a friend of mines post since she makes complex characters like this as well. I was surprised to see it wasn't. This is a great piece! I love the yarn you used for his lower half. It works so well for him. Of course his little hands are too cute! I hope you make more things like this in the future, because this is awesome!

salshep In reply to Pickleweasel360 [2013-07-19 01:14:44 +0000 UTC]

Awh, thank you! I am planning to make some more fun characters.. it's just a matter of collecting some more interesting yarns (and learning to make feathers! is next, ha) . Glad you like this little guy!

Chookums [2013-07-18 10:29:38 +0000 UTC]

A very cute interpretation of Mr. Tumnus. Great choice of yarns, the colours and textures really give the effect of his fur and hair, and nice shaping of the legs

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

salshep In reply to Chookums [2013-07-19 01:12:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! The fuzzy yarn was actually a stroke of coincidence - I'd made the face and hands for another idea and my housemate said 'you should make him a satyr". And a couple of days later, I found the fuzzy yarn and.. Mr. Tumnus!

The legs were a bit of a challenge, I'm glad you think they look okay.

You're welcome! Good suggestion by your housemate, and I can image the shaping of the legs would have been interesting to figure out
