for the skipbeat contest : [link]I based the characters from the japanese/chinese four celestial creatures. these animals were seen in anime like in fuushigi yuugi and yu yu hakusho.
each character represents a celestial creature:
sho /Zenaku- Seiryuu (dragon) in the asian mythology was represents the emperor. thus there's a dragon around Sho-chan.
Kyoko/Kanari - Suzaku (Phoenix - a bird in flames ) this represents the empress. (a rebellious and avenging empress) since phoenix are usually red , i made her clothes bloody crimson ^^ and the smoke like effects were inspired by the flames of suzaku.
Ren / Tataki- Byakuya (white tiger) this represents protector. that's what Ren always do. hehe. a tiger tatoo can be seen in his upper chest. there you go - i drew his upper body half dressed for fan service~!!!

I really do like your Ren, Sho and Kyoko creation. I think it lends itself really well to being a basis for a Sho PV (it would be neat to have a full story out of it but alas, I can't see Sho acting in a real production no matter how often folks write it into their fictions).

I so appreciate that you took the time to read my stuff. I am tickled especially because you are working such long hours. If you ever do feel motivated to draw something for one of my stories, I would happily post it for any story other than the Trophy or Sepia Images since two other artists have already kindly loaned me pictures for those.

o-oh wow... i tried to research your name in fanfiction and i must say i'm a new fan of your stories! everytime i read your story, i was at awed how you could create such solid characters and develop the story almost as good as a best seller novel!

Don't be down though, you are better than 60% of the majority in DA, it is just that I think you need to concentrate step by step. Your art reminded me of Fushigi Yuugi, yeah. And the Byakko character reminded me of the protagonist in Beezlebub. (Check out if you haven't already.)
But yes, you should work on a shounen-style. I would be very happy if your style could reach to Death Note or Code Geass levels but that's just my wishful thinking. Even Kishimoto isn't that good with drawing. >.<
[Note - Oh wait. I just noticed you made a mistake with Byakko too. It is not Byakuya but Byakko. By the way, it means "White Tiger" so I am not sure whether you want the black aura.]

I want to know what i lack in drawing. it's good to receive praises but commments and critques like yours are the most helpful. ^_^ (actually, one year from now, i'll be presenting my thesis and the kind of critique you gave me is just like those that the juror will be advising.)

Yes, it is okay. Writing a critique and giving advices is much less taxing than what I usually do so yeah, it is okay. Right now, I am like trying to sit IELTS, EJU, JLPT & help writing someone a story, writing a story of my own, self-studying CGs. *sweats*

i'm an architecture student - the jurors in my university are known for giving advive which are helpful, straight to the point and sometimes, they do say some advice that can hurt your ego. ^_^ so i'm preparing a lot this year.
the words can sometimes bruise someone's pride, and they even managed to make someone cry. God- Please help me. lol but yeah. i'm preparing. and your comments help me for the first time to accept it humbly and be open minded.

I am taking Human Sociology in a certain university in Japan. It offers like 50%, 65%, 80%, 100% scholarship so I just chose it because I would be able to live much easier. Though I believe my university life will be spent mostly in clubs like "Animation & Manga", "Digital Design". I might switch university in later years but not so sure though. >.<
There are lots of "Tokyo University" but if you are talking about the really difficult and famous one, yeah, it is HARD. XD

Okay, I don't know what you are aiming for so I will just tell you what I see.
First of all, your drawing style is NOT bad but ANTIQUE, it is not something modern people like usually. And, your art is too BRIGHT overall that they blind me. When you shadow, don't use plain black & transparent gradient, put more effort by making a base colour and "soft brush" on it with a lighter tone.
Because everything is BRIGHT, everything looks metallic so restrain yourself to making bright to something that is METALLIC only. Your hand posture is weird if you look deeper into the art. The moon doesn't look like a moon and why is there ripple effects in your background? Please make your background something similar so that you characters can stand out more, rather than being seen on the same level as the background.
When you apply special effects, limit to only aura (black, red, etc.) and don't apply them to the clothes because it is unnecessary. May be, you should apply them to the part where the aura and the clothes connect but NEVER the whole clothes. The colouring you did on the sword handles are amateurish, you should put more effort on it. But before you do so, I hope you learn more types of colouring.
Suzaku one is a girl or a boy? In either case, the face is BAD and not SUITABLE so you might want to improve your basic drawing skill. Seiryuu's head is not intimidating so you should try to draw more dragons. And the character with Seiryuu, his helmet is ruining his features, please don't make it stand out in a bad way.
The line "Destiny" is badly placed because when I overview the page, it looks like the part around it is too shiny because of its radiance and also the nearby object/character 's radiance. That's all, I think.
It's just that you showed us a coloured-artwork and not a sketch so it is hard for me to see every flaw. Anyway, I recommend that you read the tutorials I have favourited in my gallery. Hope they help.

keep drawing i know you can do it! even in computer~! actually my scanner broke down months ago, i just scan my drawings in a nearby shop even though the price was ridiculously expensive. i mean - for a piece of paper i have to pay as much as i pay for a fare going to school? that's absurd!
there's this wacom table everyone's talking about. you might want to save up a lot and then you can draw directly in the computer using and electronic pen. there's a DA muro too! the one that deviant is advertising~ ^_^ , just think of a touch pad in those ahhh cellphones. it's like that - but you use a pen instead of your hands . i'm saving right now to buy one lol~!

whoa - now you're giving me A LOT of ideas~! lol! you took up Asian class too? i learned that myth from a class lol! and yeah if you're gonna study it - the emperor and the empress tends to fight like those two. ^_^ i was planning to make "beagle" the tortoise but i guess i ran out of time. you can see some spots where i didn't color - like the rosa stone hanging on ren's sword - the teeth of the dragon, sho's other helmets and mask were hard. i didn;t color the smaller parts.

Nah, I'm just a major mythology geek. My expertise is Greek myths, but I'll study almost anything. XD Yeah, from the different variations that I've read, there's two different ways that the Dragon/Pheonix relationship goes; either they're lovers that make a undefeatable team, or bitter enemies trying to kill each other. I always considered that very ironic, and the fact that you chose Shou and Kyouko to represent them only makes it more so.
Reino as the Black Tortoise? XD Well... that would certainly be interesting... 
It'd be fun if you had Hiou play the Kirin. It's supposed to represent innocence and purity, after all, so it'd be appropriate for a child to play the role.

In greek mythology, I'm most fond the stories connected to the Trojan War, like Clytemnestra and Agamemnon and their children. Though I also like the story of Orion, too.
