Here's my latest entry for AlphaBands!
What can anyone say about them that hasn't been said before? They are rock's preeminent power trio, featuring the best blues-rock guitarist to have ever lived.
Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, and Jimi Hendrix formed the band in London in 1966 and played together for three years. They released three studio albums during that time. They contain some of the most blistering, groovy, heavy, psychedelic, bluesy, funky, rocking music the world has ever known.
Hendrix was solely responsible for an entirely new sound that no one yet had thought to make come out of a guitar. He played the feedback and made his instrument sing. He made the wah pedal a mainstay in rock guitar. The sexual power that he exuded on stage made him one of the most colorful performers of his era. His soul screams through the pickups on his Stratocaster while Mitchell and Redding round out the bottom line.
Hendrix died at the age of 27, only four years of material having been recorded. But what material: three albums with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, a live record with Band of Gypsys, and twelve posthumous releases.
