Description This is the GP01 (Zephyranthes) from the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories OVA series. This is actually my favorite Gundam pretty much ever. Basically the same as the original Gundam with a sleeker body and upgraded technology. Not much on frills and firepower.

For references on this 3d mesh I used the GFF mostly. This is easily seen in areas like the lower leg, the back of the hand, the feet and the shoulder verniers where it doesn't match the MG version at all. Also in the rear of the waist where there exists a weapons carrier (like for the GM Command). Although the original design is by Shoji Kawamori, the MG and GFF were conceptualized by Hajime Katoki. However, Katoki's influence in the concept (in the MG manual) isn't recreated faithfully in the MG kit as it is in the GFF figure and so I went with mostly the latter in the end... though the MG was a great help. Finally, the weapon being held by the GP01 at the moment is the XBR-L-83d Beam Rifle used by the GP01 in the PS2 game "Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space".

Couple of errors that I don't have time to fix as I have to go to Sendai for the weekend: There was to be a dust effect on the ground, but the CPU was actually going into it's 40th hour of rendering so I cut it off since there's a blizzard due to hit soon, the beam sabers in the back shouldn't go into the upper body the way they are above and the right leg cuff is disappearing into the ankle. Very strange....

Anyway

Software: Lightwave3D (modelling, rendering), Hexagon (some UV's), Freehand (logos), Photoshop (post).

and...

Gundam is (c) Bandai/Sunrise/Sotsu Agency

Have a good weekend!

Ugh, yes, it is official. Everyone else is getting snow but me. I'm getting severe thunderstorms instead.

I was pretty surprised upon seeing the beam rifle. I remember about a year and a half, 2 years back seeing some sketches of it on the net somewhere, but I never remembered seeing it in any ofthe animations. I've never played Encounters in Space, so it's good info to know. But seeing that beam rifle, makes me want to give E.I.S. a try, I remember it not getting high ratings...

And this GFF version I don't see much of. Probably not looking in the right places, but I don't get much time these days to do much of anything, what with college. Personally, I think it was a better choice to use the GFF, and tone down on the MG, I like the look. It's definitely more streamlined.

Nice job rendering as always. It really takes that long to render? wow. Colors are nice and smooth, and pose seems natural. Two thumbs up on this one.

Still getting pelted with snow here.... horrible.
..but thank you as well for that! Really though, I've not heard of one gundam game that was worth the money. Even this new "Target in Sight" game for the PS3 seems to fall short....

I don't have a PS3 yet, alas I am a poor college student, but when I do get one, I have been eyeing Crossfire for the PS3. It seems to be pretty decent.

Simple is beautiful when it's well done; that's the case with Gundams like the Zephyranthes ... even so, I thing i like the Full Vernian upgrade better than the original, maybe 'cause it reminds me the Tallgeese for G Wing, which was a hell of Mobile Suit.

What else can I say? I love your CGI works; the detail and quality of them is beyond anything some of us will ever be capable of achieve.

Ah, I'm not a big fan of the Full Vernian..... But I understand what you mean. Hopefully I'll knock out the Fb in the future

Zephy is one of my very favourites Gundam, as you said, it's simple but quite detailed :3 and it's quite kick ass with his full vernier form XD (I remember playing Z-Gundam for PSX and kicking asses with it on the Battle Mode )

Your attention to these details is spectacular, especially in your appreciation for the variations between original artist's approach and the different qualities of the mecha types. ^_^

I also would have loved to see some dust on the ground, but I think your reason for finishing the rendering sooner instead of later was a good one.

Beautiful work; I really loved how the shield and the gun (esp the gun) turned out.

Took me some time studying both (real) models and realizing what I liked about them and how different they were. If I can get some time to fix the dust I certainly will.

Yup, not much shadow. The sun is blocked by overcast so shadows aren't well defined.

They only seem to have bigger (longer?) feet. I actually shortened the length of this one a bit compared to the MG.

RX78 GP-01 is my favorite too!
I have an old action figure of it that has been beaten to death...The ball joints for the shoulders don't really hold anymore and I lost its shoulder armor...X3
But I still love it!

(about the death of your figure) ouch

ArpegiusWolf In reply to sandrum [2006-12-04 23:21:03 +0000 UTC]

aww. it isn't dead. I just have to keep putting its arms back on, lol. And I stole the shoulder armor from one of my GMs so it dosn't look so retarded.

The fact that it is so worn out shows how much I love it! As well as my (brother's XD) RX78-2 Gundam figure.

I wish I could have the Gundam figure that was like, 4ft tall...*3* *fangirly squee* that would be awesome!!!!
