Hmm, well I'm guessing it doesn't fit in the time frame, but the first thing that comes to mind is Ted Sandyman or Lotho Sackville-Baggins ala The Pub Series by RachelStonebreaker . It's a good read. Hobbits in their natural enviornment, a pub of course
