So I Heard You Liked Humanized Ponies: Part One
I had a massive art slump a couple of weeks ago, and I thought humanizing a bunch of ponies would help. It did, but it was not the fast project I thought it would be. Granted, I thought I only had 20-30 characters in the file, not…52. 52. What was I thinking?
Anyways, I did these in my looser style, so I know there are mistakes. I mostly focused on shape variety, and keeping them cute without turning them into Ariel clones. I don’t think I completely succeeded, but I do like the way they turned out, and I did have a lot of fun!
These are four of the eight rows I had. I’m working on the last half this weekend. Here are the character coming up next:
-Row 5: Sapphire Shores, Octavia, Gilda, Flim-Flam Bros, Big McLarge Huge
-Row 6: Big Macintosh, Granny Smith, Fancy Pants & wife(?) (not sure what her fanon name is!), Spa Twins
-Row 7: Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Shining Amour, Princess Cadance, Prince Blueblood, Zecora
-Annnd some portraits of the Mane Six that I’m probably going to finish + post tonight, since they’re fairly simple.

I LOVE your character designs! I'm loving the variety of body shapes and colors.
Also, I don't know why people are all like: "Why are Pinkie and Fluttershy bigger?", personally, I think it works. I mean, Pinkie Pie makes cupcakes and is constantly eating. You've got to admit, she probably would be bigger.
And Fluttershy is shy, got picked on, and can't really fly well. This would explain a lot. Also the fact that she's more gentle and motherly.
Also, Scootaloo does have short hair, I don't get why people are complaining? Lol.

Eh, I knew I would get some complaints when I was designing them. I'm actually surprised no one (so far) has complained about race yet.
I think it's the combination of short hair + pants that's tripping some people up, heh. And thank you!

I'm surprised too, just about every single human MLP picture I see with one of the characters being a darker skin tone, people start complaining. It's ridiculous.

Dude, I can't take Ponibooru seriously. I know there are a couple of trolls there who will say anything negative about humanizations that aren't white and skinny. Besides, I knew I was going to get this kind of feedback when I drew them. I'm honestly surprised the reaction has been mostly positive. I expected the reverse- which is actually kind of sad, that I expected that of the pony fandom.

That is sad, you shouldn't have to expect that for the Pony Fandom, but it is what it is. It's the fandom that chases me away from the show. I like it and think it's cute, but most of the fandom just creeps me out a bit. I wish it wasn't so dang popular sometimes...

Pinkie Pie was actually inspired by a friend of mine, who mentioned they saw Pinkie as a Gil Elvgren girl. I made her a little larger than the typical Elvgren, but that's what inspired her design.

I modeled her after the mother figure/Earth goddess archetype. Also, it is a Known Fact animals like to snuggle breasts. My rats- when I had rats- did it all the damn time and I'm not even impressive in that area.

It's an anthropological term for the basic characteristics shared by the earth and mother goddesses in mythology- such as fertility, nurturing, and wide hips and busts. If you google it, you can find more. I don't have any one source, since I studied mythology and the anthropology of religion in school.
