Description
Dates: 9/25/18 - 9/26/18Artist's Notes: As requested by I have drawn Colobomycter, an obscure parareptile from the Permian period that possessed some unusual dentition. From what i have gethereds it seems that this genus is only known from skull material so I had to fill in the gaps with my imagination, basing this creatures appearance on the modern tuatara.

Here's a good one:Β Laophis crotaloides

SaurArch In reply to Tigon1Monster [2018-10-05 04:57:02 +0000 UTC]
From what I've gathered Laophis is only known from a few vertebrae from which it was determined to be a large viper, it doesn't sound like enough material for me to make an interesting reconstruction.

I have a few references you can use.

If its just someone else's art then all I would be doing is copying, which isn't interesting or honest. I'm going to have to decline unless there is good fossil material.

How aboutΒ Colossochelys atlas instead?

SaurArch In reply to Tigon1Monster [2018-10-06 17:45:51 +0000 UTC]
Eh, I'm not really intereseted in drawing prehistoric animal that are essentially larger versions of modern animals, although Megalochelys is pretty cool so maybe some day.

Here's another obscure one:Β Unquillosaurus

Same problem as Laophis, it's only known from a single pubic bone. Anyway, something recently came up and I can't take requests for now. It's no big deal but I won't be able to upload for a while.

SaurArch In reply to Tigon1Monster [2018-09-27 17:33:46 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but I mostly used skeletal material of Colobomycter and other parareptiles as reference material, and of course pictures of tuataras.

I don't really use tumblr but I have seen this person's work scattered through out the internet, I like their ceratopsian reconstructions.

Amazing use of colors and the black and white ones have a nice sense of texture but a few of the images seem a little flat and have no real weight to them. Over all I'd say their pretty good.

SaurArch In reply to Tigon1Monster [2018-09-28 19:43:15 +0000 UTC]
The Holocene ones? Probably not, besides the original artists did a way better job with them than I could do, I'm not as good at drawing mammals and arthropods.

Turns out some reptiles have one

SaurArch In reply to PerfectChaos22 [2018-09-27 17:30:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I have no idea what they were used for though, they seem to be vestigial in most modern reptiles that still have them.

PerfectChaos22 In reply to SaurArch [2018-09-27 17:41:09 +0000 UTC]
I heard some theories that they use them to keep track of time or it possibly helps them with direction
I don't believe that, usually the pineal eye represents telekinesis
Maybe reptiles have a sixth sense we don't know about

Hmmmm..... It's an interesting subject I should look into the theories on pineal eyes.
