Artist's Notes: A commission done for . This is Tortuga, a concept kaiju for Pacific Rim but never made it into the films or supplementary material. It was described as having a three pronged mouth that could open up like a flower and a long tongue that could be used as a harpoon. For inspiration I looked to various other kaiju, like Gabora and Gamera as well as the worms from Dune and even real life turtles and tortoises for the throat spikes and overall body shape.
