Artist's Notes: A commission done for . Here is Fulcrum, another scrapped kaiju from Pacific Rim. The kaiju was described as a bioluminescent dinosaur with barbed tentacles surrounding its mouth and trailing off of its arms and a scourge of whip-like tails. The creature was also covered in parasites known as berserkers. The overall vibe of the creature is inspired by Godzilla's best friend, Anguirus, who was also meant to be host to a parasite in the unmade Bride of Godzilla? movie. For the head I looked at fantasy designs of ceratopsians like the stegadon of warhammer and the bloodstriker from D&D. The mixture of tentacles and vertebrate limbs is based on various depictions of Shub-Niggurath in fiction. I gave the creature pangolin like scales on its back for the parasites to hide under as the client wasn't keen on the idea of giving the creature a hive like back. The parasites in the sidebar are based on the the skinmites from the original movie and various arthropods suggested by the client. Overall this was a lot of fun but a lot of work to do. I've said it here before but I love the idea of a creature so large that even its parasites are a credible threat to humans. The creature is a bit overbaked but I still like it.
