Description
A little something to help some beginners, maybe some advanced users, and other people, aliens, animals & whoever else might need this- get the right colors for shading!Using the color picker in Adobe Photoshop...
Advanced users can use the HSB (Hue Saturation Brightness) Sliders to do this, although you can't properly apply the "diagonal selection" technique there..

if you select colors towards the upper right side of the color picker square, you get brighter more saturated colors. But of course after painting, I usually have an extra step where I adjust the colors of the whole painting, for a finishing touch..

thanks for this tutorial! I was wondering how to pick colors that would look consistent with each other without relying on a photo reference. Very helpful. Thanks for sharing!

check first your image color mode. On the menu, Go to Image,- Mode, and make sure RGB or CMYK is selected. (not grayscale/monotone etc)

it definitely helps, but how do you go about "blending" in photoshop? i've tried the blur tool and it just doesnt work out as well as sai's. instead of blending, it just makes it really blurry for me when i use it.

you can try smudge instead of blur just change the bush shape and settings to something you like
