I know what you mean. I learned that best way to learn is having quick studies about certain subject, like if you want to learn to paint fire, you find few tutorials, try them out, find few pictures about fire and try to mimic reality, experiment (that is the fun part).

Yeah! I do paintings in few layers because I get too confused otherwise and lose patience. Also my paintings better blend that way. When I started digital painting I used lots of layers but I learned that less is better for me.

You are right. I have quite a bit of deviations to check, and this one was in that bit. And it is still awesome.

This is incredible...the kind of effort involved...It must have taken you SO long. D8
It's really just amazing.
The depth of the skintone, and all the detail in the hair, and the eyes, and EVERYTHING.

How long did it take you?
I can't even imagine doing something like this, It would probably take me days.

I'm not sure but I think it took nine hours, maybe less. I'm usually afraid not to make mistake, but when you shed that fear everything is faster and better.

I guess nine hours isn't so bad.
Thats very true. ^__^
I think it's easier to do that digitally anways, because theirs no chance of ruining the paper.

This excellent, you made it so vibrant and bright without making it gharish which is such a fine line to tread so successfully. She's beautiful, it looks like oil on canvas!
the tones and textures are magnificent.

This is really well done. Your colors are particularly good, I think.
When I saw the thumbnail I wasn't sure if it was digital or oil.

Thank you!
Never heard of Gimp? Interesting! It's a free and open-source software. Which means anyone can see the code with which the program was made and join in development process - I'm explaining this because if you never heard of Gimp you probably haven't used any open-source software.
It is graphic photo-editing, software... I'll make novel of this comment the way I'm going. Here's the link to the Gimp site: [link]
There you'll find more information about it.
