Description
For part of a little art themed competition with the lads at work. We were supposed to paint a beast or a demon that embodied βdarknessβ. Immediately my mind turned to large areas of light that could be masked with a dark character ... like the surface of the sun.
So here is a solar demon called Sunspot. Something about this image really creeps me out. D:
Painted in 2 hours using ArtRage.

Those are some nice textures, good work! Are those eyes or teeth? Or...both??

I quite like the idea of them being eyes. But the abstract potential for them to be both adds to the creep factor. >:3

Reminds me of the Ing from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Great looking picture too.

Yes! I think I had a reference picture for the ing while I was doing this piece. These guys are a bit more humanoid though. ^^

They could be more powerful then their brethren thus having a humanoid form cam be more adaptable on some occasions (or that's me over thinking again).
WellΒ Dark Samus was a humanoid so.... bah, details.
Once again good picture.

He looks like a happy fellow... to regard from a distance. Like, say, the distance of Earth to Sun?
I do like the color schemery here.

Agreed. o_o;
ArtRage has some really nice painterly colour-mixing tools. I should really use it more often. ^^

Actually, sunspots are blindingly bright, though somewhat less than the boiling mass around them, which only becomes apparent when using thick lenses... Now that I got my APOD stuff out, I got to say I share the level of creep with you on this one. Neat!

Oh yeah, I mean, it's THE SUN. You're gonna get your eyeballs melted if you look at it. xD
Was meant to be more metaphorical than anything else. When I see dark patches on the sun, it makes me wonder if there's anything ... 'hiding' in them. D:

Oh yeah! The sun is an entity of constant activity and chaotic processes. Hard to grasp, impossible to predict... Though sentient beings walking on its surface would have to be a surprise for everybody.
