The Captain of Squad 12, which does Research and Development, Minoru was born in the Seireitei; though both of his parents were members of Central 46 so there was no pressure for him to become a Shinigami. Unfortunately, his father died from a disease and it made his mother spiraling into terrible depression; and she treated Minoru poorly. He eventually enrolled in the Shino Academy, as he had quite a bit of Reiatsu, though also to get away from his mother; which is where he met a girl by the name of Hanako who he fell in love with. But, she was unfortunately killed by a powerful hollow while they were out together which motivated Minoru to get into science...wanting to try and bring her back.
