Take your time and don't rush. Haha. There are tons of tutorials on how to do the basics. If you need help finding something specific, let me know and I'll see what I can do to help

thanks you!!!! I did want to ask about the tail, I want it too curl upward somewhat, so I was thinking of using a stiff wire and polyester fill. The extra wire I would use to create a support that would go on a belt or around my waist, would that work?

ScratchKitty In reply to ArcticWolfSpirit [2010-08-04 19:09:13 +0000 UTC]
Wire gets bent out of shape too easily IMO, though it could work, as long as you support the wire inside the tail so it doesn't just pull out. Carved foam would also work to keep a curl, and has the added bonus that it can be smooshed and still retain it's shape. You can also just cut the pattern in the proper curve, depending on how big it is and how much of a curve you want.

well I found some music wire, which I am also going to use for the fingers, the carved foam is really expensive, and I think there would be too much of a curve to not have any support

ScratchKitty In reply to ArcticWolfSpirit [2010-08-05 20:26:33 +0000 UTC]
How much of a curve? Those methods can support a pretty good curve. Do you have a picture of what you're aiming for?

um, lugia has a pretty big curve in his tail,
for a picture, I would say go to google images and type in "lugia"

Oh. I've had a bunch of people asking me things recently, I forgot we were talking about Lugia. Haha. I don't know how strong the wire you're planning on using is, so I can't really comment on it. All I know is I hate using any kind of wire if I can avoid it. haha

well I thought about using some hose reinforced by wire also, I only have wire in the wings, and not a whole lot of it

ScratchKitty In reply to ArcticWolfSpirit [2010-08-06 18:01:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, you only want it to curve out right? Not up? Personally, I would just go with the foamcore, and if that wasn't strong enough I would use a delrin rod for a spine. But as I said, I just dislike using wire. Lemme know how it turns out for you!

do you have a video of it somewhere i was trying to see it again and how did you do it

ScratchKitty In reply to ElfWolfProductions [2010-03-22 01:10:03 +0000 UTC]
I have a video, but the lighting is very hard to see in it, so it's not posted on the net. It's done with thin EL wiring laced into the yellow circles. I think the EL wire is a little too thin, which is why it is so dim, but I might replace it later after I remake the head and tail to be more to size with the body suit

is it under the fur or over the fur when you did it? and it may be too thin yeah.

ScratchKitty In reply to ElfWolfProductions [2010-03-23 06:19:47 +0000 UTC]
It's over, as the 2 inch fur is way too thick for the lighting to show through it. LEDs might show through the fur, but that was more than I wanted to do. The thin wire was chosen so that it is hidden well. The problem with lighting is, when it's not lit, it's still too easy to see the wire. As you can see in the hip circle in this shot. I have since secured the wire so it doesn't show as much. Thing is, most people are going to see it in the light, so they can't see the lighting. Often I actually don't even have batteries in it if I know it's not dark enough to see. lol
but at Otakon I try to get out and walk a little at night, and the people who do see it get pretty excited

oh i see it now. i didn't know what that was. yeah i was going to give that a try and do it with three or four rounds of EL lighting under the fur to see if that worked. if it doesn't i will be working on hiding it as best as possible

ScratchKitty In reply to ElfWolfProductions [2010-03-24 17:44:22 +0000 UTC]
It depends on the fur. The fur I used won't let EL wire show.. it's just not strong enough. A thicker white wire might if you wind it around a lot, but the yellow is just too dim. A fur that's less dense would probably show it. But Bree is shaggy and I wanted the long fur XD

damn... i really like that costume!
maybe, could you give me a tutorial on how to make it or a pattern to trace...?
if you could, that would be awesome!

ScratchKitty In reply to xxhiccupxx [2010-02-19 02:46:33 +0000 UTC]
my pattern was specifically made to fit me, and I don't think duplicating it would do you any good. But I can say what I did was make a duct tape dummy of myself and used muslin to make a baggy plain bodysuit, which I then pinned more to size around the padding. Once i had that pattern done, I transferred it to fur.
