Description
Graphite on paper, 8" x 10", 60-minute pose. The model had such a cute face, I ended up concentrating on her head and the pillows. I just didn't feel like making the effort to draw the foreshortened arms & legs. It's been a stressful week...

I think it's actually better sometimes when an emphasis is put on the face.... it creates the intimacy that one feels when put face to face with another person, when it's just the two of you and plenty of time for conversation.

Thanks so much. That's an interesting comment. It's odd, because I have a hard time engaging with people I don't know well (and sometimes even those I do). But there's something about the artist/model situation that just puts me at ease. IMO, there is a certain level of intimacy required for a successful drawing, and both model and artist have to be open to each other.

I agree.
I have to be in the mood for engagment, but with viewing a drawing... it's almost like that intimacy between the artist and the model transfers to the viewer. So it doesn't necessarily feel like your best friend or a complete stranger.. just a connection that has been made on some level.

i think it looks fine the way it is. sometimes it's cool to leave things unfinished, it's like the subject fades into existence by your showing how you set things up.

The modeling of the face is very well done. Maybe its just me but I love that you left parts of the drawing unresolved. The looseness of the limbs allows the face be the point of interest. Nice work!

Thanks. I just couldn't resist drawing her face. It just went so well with her hair.

Thanks so much! I can't wait to see some of your class work. What is your major going to be? Design, illustration or fine arts?

Thank you so much. I wish now that I had been a little braver and worked out that foreshortening...
