Description
For =akeli s contest entry -- a weapon and some armour. The weapon... probably doesn't make sense, 'cause most of the things I come up with don't. But I'll try to explain it here anyway.
So basically there are two pivots, connected to the joints of the front legs (they should be attached with bands but I forgot to draw them in). Off the larger pivot comes a solid piece which curves back around and has two deep indentations near the spike at the end. To the larger pivot also is attached a hinge joint with minimal movement, off which a drumstick-type thing comes.
Then there's the large wooden disc, with a cross through the middle. At the center of this cross is a small vertical.. thing (argh lack of vocabulary) to which a strong, elastic rope is attached. The other end of the rope is attached to the bottom-center of another smaller disc, which is spiked.
This entire thing is symmetrical, by the way.
SO. On to how it actually works. When the attacker lifts/bends their left front leg, say, the pivots act so that the large curved piece is pushed forward. Now, the drumstick (reminds me of food) is positioned so it fits very snugly against the piece when not in use, so when the piece is moved, the drumstick will be forced to to 'jump' over the indentations (as the hinge doesn't allow for sideways movement, and only very limited movement otherwise). When it falls into the next indentation along, the top part of the drumstick will then hit the outer rim of the disc, similar to a drum.
The vibrations cause the smaller, spiked disc on top to fling in the opposite direction (I bet my logic/reasoning is off here somewhere xD), and hopefully hit someone on the way.
This means that the attacker has to use the weapon with enough force, so of course, it can't be used while really moving and it does slightly hamper movement otherwise. It's also a heavier weapon.
Um. Yeah. I hope that made at least some sense. The armour doesn't really need explaining.

Wow, what awesome armor and weapon concepts, though I tend to think the armor works best. The weapon looks too... mechanically simple for the desired effect. But the idea is nice too

Interesting. Even if it wouldn't work too well, it looks darn cool! xD

Well, it works on a basic level, but seems a bit silly when imagining practical application. Seems really slow and awkward, but a very interesting design, nonetheless.
