Dear Soldier,

Absence makes the heart grow fonder,
Each beat stretches the seam further and further as time goes on,
It has been many years already and I'm tired,

Tired of the scent of a decaying house that hasn't been lived in,
Of waking up to anxiety alone in a bed meant to be shared,
And of the faltering faith in how much love could protect,

This isn't goodbye, goodbye would mean leaving you behind,
Too much a part of me, too real to pretend that it doesn't hurt,
I don't want to face the fact that home is not a place I want to be,

Everything promised to us was set aside for honor,
Couldn't hold back someone who's always fighting for something,
I love you but I shouldn't have to fight myself,

We're at a point where we're not supposed to be empty,
Days are going by too fast and sleep is dreamless,
Letting go and looking away were the hardest things to do,

I won't despair over what should have been,
You always knew how important it was to adapt,
Hopefully, you'll find the one thing that could keep you here and hold on to it.
