Description This was inspired by one of my night drives home after work. I live in Washington (which is not very different at all from Oregon, where Gravity Falls takes place and where the film Paranorman was made) and the scenery inspired me to paint a Pacific Northwest sunset/ night sky. It is beautiful here. And since I've been spending too much time on Tumblr it turned into this.

The Big Dipper is probably never seen so close to the moon... I definitely took artistic license with this night sky. Nothing is accurate. Don't judge me too harshly for it! haha

On the technical side, this is one of my first digital paintings. I drew this to acquaint myself with BRUSH TEXTURES, which I had never used before (yes, really). Now that I can texture my brushes I feel a lot more comfortable using computer painting programs.

:> Howdy.

This is so cute! I also live in Washington! I really miss the west side and all the forest-y type things when I have to attend college in Ellensburg.

This is gorgeous! The colors are so well doneβ€”did you figure them out from memory? And the textures are awesome! What program did you use? I'm trying to figure out how to do digital painting right now, too, so any advice you want to give me would be greatly appreciated! I love the moon, too. Somehow it looks super stylized and really real at the same time. I guess it's because you captured a thing that the moon does in real life that I don't see depicted very often in art. I mean, I guess I see GLOWING moons a lot, but... that moon is glowing in like a jittery, offset sort of way, you know? It's cool. This is pretty greatβ€”I'm excited to see more digital stuff from you because OH MY GOSH COLOR YES!

Thank you Bunny!!! I did do the color from memory, yeah, I didn't use a ref photo or anything.

I used a brush texture that I found in a google search... I can't find it again right now (it isn't coming up for some reason) but they actually were not anything fancy, and I can share them with you if you use SAI.

That would be great! I don't have real SAI. I do have a Mac knock-off version, which I haven't really used yet because it scares me. But I would definitely love to have those brushes if it's not too much trouble.
