Description
Line art by , colors by me.I've had mixed feelings about Hanna-Barbara's "Thundarr the Barbarian", a crazy contrived mishmash of the candy-coated nightmares of George Lucas and Robert E. Howard. All the same, I do have some fond childhood memories of it, and even noticing nods to it in "Samurai Jack" pilot movie made me smile...
A lot of pictures you can google will color the sunsword blue. Some others even have it at green, but in my personal recollection, it was yellow. Sunsword (not a lightsaber), after all. Yellow. Particularly, noted, because the Luke Skywalker action figure I had as a child had a yellow lightsaber--(not a blue one, as was evident in the movie.), so for a while, I could imagine my Luke Skywalker figure as a Thundarr action figure. Just another one of those crazy things you pick up from childhood....

The sun sword had blue blade with a yellow field around it.

This looks like a Thundarr who might make Conan think twice!

The only thing I don't like is that I am always worried about seeing him hit a draft...

That's why he's a barbarian...he hasn't mastered pants, yet.

Nice work with the highlights from the Sunsqord--works really well to give this a nice, atmospheric feel. (Very dramatic!)

I need to do more mood-specific coloring projects....more practice for me...thanks for recognizing, though--I'm glad that was observed.

Not at all, you deserved a better comment than that even, but midterms sap the mind.

Ariel! Ookla! RIDE!
Great job on this one! Yes, the Sunsword was yellow, and I agree the show was a big stew of sci-fi and fantasy elements. But, it was a fun show, in the old, Saturday matinΓ©e serial vein.
I always liked Ariel . . . though I wish she'd been made a redhead, like Galeta on "Galtar and the Golden Lance".
Maintain and Check Six!

Yes, Thundarr's sword WAS yellow. (i watched it on boomerang yesterday actually).....yeah, it IS a mishmash...right down to the "chewbacca-like" dude who followed him and the soceress chick around.
great job here steve, its really cool, i love how you do the highlights in your work.

That's Ookla, and apparently he's a Mok!
He had a funky horse, too. In the "Samurai Jack" pilot, Jack rode a horse that resembled Ookla's horse...

ooh yeah, that's right *i reel slightly from memory jarred* ......i wonder if there's any difference between memory jarred and memory canned.....i suppose the latter would have a slightly more tinny flavor.....

I just stubled across this. It's cool, I remember Thundar. Ah, childhood nostalgia. And you did an excellent job on the coloring.
