Description I took a lot of videos while making a prototype of PVC injection Mermaid pen. Here is an example (2 minutes) making fish scales tutorial progress video. Hope you may help for making your sculpture. You can use the tools and methods for the scales of dragon, fish, creature etc.

YouTube link:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXEpHc…

Material:
Super Sculpey/nail polish remover/nylon brush/wooden tools

Here are some sculpting points:
*The key point in making fish scales is arched tools and steady hands. I made a double ends tool in a wood stick of popsicle. You may find it at the art and craft store. Use round file & sandpaper to make a curve angle like fish scale. You may make them in several sizes. The tip that touches clay is only in certain small area, take some time to figure it out, be creative with your own tools!

*Test your tools on a piece of clay first, practice a bit before making the scales on your sculpture. Press hard, soft, get the right sense of strength, so you can make the surface of whole tail even & pretty. Oh, but in some condition, It doesn’t have to be smoothly even if you are making unique creatures or horrors, you can make them really uneven on purpose.

*Here we go! Work on your figurine after practice. From now on, all you need is the concentration! Memorize the strength, get it done at once!

*Brush a bit of nail polish remover to take off scraps and also smooth out the surface. Check everywhere and put it in the oven, I leave "the extended armature" on, will take it off after baking.
Hope this video may help! Enjoy!

Now that is going to be one fantastically beautiful pen when you're finished.  Such skilled hands and fingers.

Not going to ask how long it actually takes, as the vid is sped up.

Hello! I love your work you are very skilled. Thanks to your tutorials I started to sculpt myself, you have my deepest gratitude! I was wondering how would you approach sculpting lace. I tried pressing lace onto clay but that didnt work out for me. Maybe you have some clever idea for the job :3 Have a lovely day!

Coincidentally, I have finished a project with lace all over the dress of a lady, although I didn't took a video for the progress but there were lots of photos taken during the sculpting. Hope that may help. Since you are making sculpting too, you'll be easily figure it out. It's hard to make stamps as fish scales but basically using simple round tip tools in low-relief would work. I'll edit the photos at here:

Hope you like it!

Interesting! When i tried doing scales, i pressed a fine, rounded mesh over the clay, but that didnt get this nice layered look

The method you use may apply to some important or standout areas, the normal and repeat areas would better use tools to make it more even and managed.
