Robotnik from the british Sonic the comic. To be fair, early in thisrun I felt this was a decent version...even if his backstory was ridiculous. But hey, to be fair at the time this was the "official" backstory. And he may have done a bit too many egg puns. Irony is that this version was never called Eggman. One thing that annoyed me tough...is that later on they gave hima redesign..with no real reason to it. I liked this design here, but suddenly the change him to look like Adventures Robotnik or Dr Pingas as I call him...Why? Dr Pingas is basically the most ridiculous version of Robotnik, this comic had a totally different tone...and then THIS? How does it make any sense? The comic story never tied into the cartoon or anything. Its like in the middle of "The dark knight" Joker decides to change his look to the Cesar Romero Joker.A decent version...but not one that Im a big fan of.
Robotnik belongs to SEGA.

Well, he was once friendly scientist Ovi Kintobor, and he invented a machine to remove the world's evil, but then when he was holding a bad egg, an accident happened which destroyed the machine, and all the evil + the bad egg went into him, turning him into Ivo Robotnik.

My favorite design was the last one from their Adventure adaptation, where they gave him Modern Eggman's clothes and toned down some of his more exaggerated design elements.
I actually do like the egg backstory (I find it weird that this version was never called 'Eggman') since it does give a bit of super hero/villain origin feel to me and I don't know it feels the most like an 'iconic' backstory to me if that makes sense? Sure it's a little over the top but it could be altered a bit.

in the uk Adventures of sonic was more popular and sega wanted that fleetway editions would use one of the us robotnik designs.
then they started to use the adventures of sonic robotnik.

Heh, I kinda liked his backstory. If I had to change it I would make the rotten egg more symbolic and the chaos energies the real reason of his transformation.
And while his second appearance looks like Dr. Pingas it's also similar to SatAM in a few ways, maybe the authors just wanted him to be more recognizable. Personally I'm more a fan of his third and last appearance (not counting the disguises or the Shanazar vizier one) when he starts to dress as Modern Eggman.

Yeah I understand that you feel that way but personally I really love STC. Sure it can be really weird at times but it's part of its charm.
I just hope you won't hate my fanfic project because I'm gonna use several characters and elements from STC while trying to improve them the best that I can… It won't be my only inspiration tho…

I was not so fond of the British Sonic the Comic. It has some decent elemetns but...while the Archie comics made their character memorable, I think that not counting the sega characters two hands are enough to count all the memorable characters form the fleetway comics with fingers to spare.

Yeah, I totally agree with you there. There wasn't really anything that...set the STC characters apart so to speak, not as memorable as Sally, or Bunnie to name a few examples.

Okay, let's see how many characters I can think of on top of my head from Fleetway without slipping, not counting sega characters: Ebony, Shortfuse, Tekno, Johnny Lightfoot, Porker Lewis, Zachary, Sidewinder, Lightmare, Plunder, Blockhead Bill, Captain Plunder, Grimer, Brutus...and I blank out afterwards.
For Archie, I can easily think of twice the amount and more without the sega or knothole characters. From top of my head: Lupe, Clove, Cassia, Snively, the Iron Queen, Ahklut, the Bride of Conquering Storm, The Naugus Twins, Lightning Lynx, Predator Hawk, Flying Frog, Sergeant Simian, Mammoth Mogul, Elias Acorn, Julie-Su, Lien-Da, Scourge the Hedgehog, Ken Khan...
There are even a few characters on the list I don't like and I still remember them better then most fleetway character.

I think one of the reason the archie characters are more memorable is that....many of them felt more like Sonic characters then the STC characters did...like if you compare Grimer with Snively for instance...or Captain Plunder with Captain metal, ETC ETC ETC. They fit in more then the STC and the reboot also showed that they can work fine with the game version too!

Indeed. I think a lot of these characters wouldn't even be remembered if it wasn't for Sonic. Most of them don't look like Sonic characters and half the time you can't even see what species they are.
I don't know what Sidewinder is, he is not a sidewinder snake. His daughter has a pig nose but he is no pig himself. He is either an ugly mutated human or a sort of troll thing. Would it be too much to ask to know what they are?

I'm having trouble tackling my multiverse's versino of the fleetway comics: there aren't enough interesting characters to use. Even if I merge several minor universes from very other minor comics in it!

I think my multiverse may be shrinking down a bit...some of the zones I had in mind don't draw enough from the original to properly form. It is already hard enough my recent fanfic project takes up most of my free time, the little time I use for my sonic multiverse is getting more difficult.
