Description
There's the Icarus I know and love! Though, amusingly, I have noticed that through the short existence of this project, he has appeared more often as a slug-thing than he has as an actual changeling. Whoops! We'll just have to fix that.Anyway, finally got a new comic for this thing finished...just a little over a year since the last one. Apologies, it was not planned for such a delay to follow, nor for there to be a delay at all. it just sort of happened, and even once I had realized it was going to have to come to past a couple months in, I figured it would only be for a couple months, not a full year. But what happened is that I got caught up in other things, had other things clamoring for my attention, so much so that I have not been able to spare much time for not just this but art in general except odd "bursts" every few months or so. And finally, I hit a burst in which I was able to finally finish this thing. It didn't help that, during all of this, "To Where and Back" happened, and with the changelings all now sporting new forms, it sort of left the future of this project up in the air for a bit, leaving me unsure how I wanted to proceed, if at all.
Hopefully, the next entry won't take nearly so long, as I do intend to finish this little storyarc that I've started still, which, luckily, there's really only one more page of, but after that I will probably stop pursuing "Changelings" as multi-panel comics such as this, as it just takes more time than I can spare right now in life, and "Changelings" was always meant to be a side-project anyway.
But as I've gotten too attached to these characters, what I will probably do instead is take a page from 's work and continue drawing "Changelings" as single-frame pictures. That way I can still doodle the characters when I fancy, without giving myself more work than I could spare, and should help keep me from trying to storyarc too often (curse my writing habits!). But more on that later.
Anyway, this is the first comic to implement the stylistic changes I was experimenting with in this pic . May still need tweaking in the future, and may not be a long-term thing if I do choose to pursue "Changelings" in other formats than this, but there it is anyway, and I'm pretty pleased with the end result regardless.
Queen Mente's expression in the final panel oddly took a lot of trial and error to get right. I must have tried over a dozen different variants with subtle differences to each other until I finally settled upon one that conveyed the expression and emotion I was looking for...
It might be a little small and thus hard to read, but Icarus's line in the final panel is "I have legs again..." which actually wasn't originally scripted to be included...but he looked like he ought to be saying something along those lines, so there you go.

I will forewarn you, drawing single frame comics isn't as easy as it appears! You'll be perpetually in the mindset of "I don't want/don't have the room to draw that, so how can I heavily imply it!". Even now, there are times when I haven't got the balance between what's seen and what isn't quite right...
I'll admit, I had no idea this was a small series of yours, or that I wasn't actually watching you. Time to rectify that! Keep up the good work!

Oh right, I forgot, post anything with a user's icon in the description, and dA will send notice to the relevant user...
Anyway, but of course, those restrictions are part of why I want to take it up, or else I'll let it "get out of control," as it were. Namely with the storyarcing. I draw, but admittedly my first passion has always been writing, which means every multi-panel comic I take up inevitably reaches the point where I try to storyarc it, and...storyarcs are a lot of work and best done when posted as rapidly as you can...a tall order sometimes given the busy schedule of life, and too long for something that was, as I said, meant to be a side project.
So it's my hope that restricting myself to single-frame comics will force me to keep them more self-contained and not storyarc, taking off some of the work and pressure, and if there IS some kind of long delay between entries, it's not a big deal because they don't interconnect, and I don't leave anybody hanging, looking for more, for an unreasonable amount of time.
Besides, I've seen the fun things you've done with yours, and I sort of want in on some of that fun.
Oh, and thanks for the watch.
