Facts about the Puffball Fairies:
They are very curious creatures that are among the rarest species of fairies.
A couple of Puffballs live in the Yūgana house.
They have very large eyes and mouths, through which they emit harmonious or annoying sounds, as they sit. Think barbershop quartet.
What are the names of the Puffballs who live with Hikaru? Puffball and Puffball (hmmm, are there 2 or 3 of them?)
Average age, 680 human years (combined).
They've been around since the Middle Ages.
Their occupation is singing and harmonizing.
They often help with chores around the house.
The Puffballs almost never say anything.
They aren't very intelligent, and yet they find out everything that's going on and act accordingly.
They are dedicated to following the Yūganas and singing or letting them play with them (they also like to have fun).
The Puffballs have been taken into custody (by Abercrombie and Argilla) for disturbing the peace and out of tune singing.
Abercrombie finds the Puffballs that he oversees to be especially annoying.
Even when you pop them (let's say, with a needle), they pull themselves back together again within minutes - there is no escape! (sigh)
They can be used as water balloons.
They will pop as soon as they sing too high a note, and then regenerate immediately afterwards.
Like all members of their species, the two (or is it three?) Puffballs of the Yūgana house are basically unimportant. No one has ever spoken to them because they sing without stop. That in itself is neither here nor there - the real problem lies in their choice of songs! Deafening, melancholy, monotonous and annoyingly idiotic - in the words of Abercrombie "their songs would be a real hit on the human music charts".
Power wise, they can be made invisible like most fairies. They are invulnerable to most physical attacks, because they simply explode and re-form, without suffering any damage. And like all fairies, they are immortal.
However, they can do nothing against magic, against which they are totally vulnerable.
