Crafo was born on the Eastern Continent of Nlia in the Sky Mountains region

When she was four her family moved to the Nlian mining colony on the ore rich planet of Icar

Icar saw many off world-visitors and Songvea grew up fascinated with alien races, particularly their languages. At the age of 18 in 2234 she went to Earth and enrolled in Starfleet Academy.

Upon graduating in 2238 she was assigned to the Communications lab aboard the USS Stargazer (Kelvin class) Even as an ensign she showed herself to be iron-willed and dedicated and was very good at self defense as well.

In 2240 she transferred to the USS Edison (Newton class) where she served for nine years. She was skilled in linguistics and eventually rose to Chief of Communications. The Edison made several First Contacts, giving her many chances to use and improve her skills.

While on the Edison she met another Nlian, Lieutenant Longfi Dshar in Operations. They lifemated in 2246. The Mating struck them two years later and their daughter Tilya Dshar was born.

The new family was transferred to Starbase 23, where they remained until 2254. Since the starbase was located on the edge of the Romulan Neutral Zone, Songvea's communications skills were vital. Their second daughter, Nikolee was born there in 2252.

In 2255 Songvea and Longfi were transferred to Starbase 1.

In 2257 they both became acquainted with another Nlian couple: Shylea L'Naym and Tuskaro Alyen . They had had only recently lifemated and come to Earth to enroll in the training program for Enlisted personnel. Songvea and Longfi had many talks with the younger couple, discussing life in Starfleet and the difficulties that lifemates in the Fleet, Nlian and otherwise, often faced.
