since the 12 colonies are some 3000 LYs from Earth to the Galactic South East and Federation space some 500 LYs split half 250 to 300 LYs given the Fleet location past Kobol thats 1500 LYs from Earth so at best some 1200 to 1300 LYs from Federation space 

Thanks to the Enterprise refit able to make Warp 10 boosts and maintain Warp 7 over the standard maybe more can intercept half way in 2 to 3 years in its 5 year mission at the half way point for return and follow up. 

Which puts it on its along the Klingon Empire
