Description Geez. I really need to get back to doing "real" drawings of catgirls and Sango and stuff, but Arenafighter keeps giving me ideas...so anyhow...

The CF-105 Arrow was meant to be Canada's ultimate interceptor. It was far ahead of its time, with a top speed close to Mach 3; had it gone into service, it would have easily equaled (and probably bettered) its contemporaries, the American Convair F-106 Delta Dart and the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 Foxbat.

Unfortunately, the Arrow ran afoul of the one enemy it couldn't intercept: the Canadian government. Influenced by the British Defence White Paper of 1957, which claimed that manned aircraft were obsolete, the Canadian government cancelled the CF-105 after six prototypes had been built. Not only was the Arrow cancelled, the prototypes were destroyed and their remains dropped into Lake Ontario. Only a nose section survives today. The CAF was forced to soldier on with an inferior though still potent interceptor, the CF-101 Voodoo.

Had the Arrow gone into service, it would've been gradually upgraded, which is what you see here. The narrow canopy has been replaced with one with much better visibility; the backseat radar intercept officer now has a full canopy instead of a window. I added an infrared sensor and long-range television camera to the nose, and a F-106 style "Six-Shooter" M61 Vulcan gatling cannon bulge to the weapons bay. The Arrow probably didn't need air refuelling capability, but I added that too.

The biggest change was the addition of canards. Operators of the Mirage started adding canards later on, in the fashion of the Saab Viggen and the IAI Kfir, to improve the delta wing's low speed handling capability. I figured the Arrow could benefit from this as well. Of course, by adding it, it now makes the Arrow look like the fictional MiG-31 Firefox from the book and movie of the same name.

The paint scheme is roughly identical to the modern CF-18 Hornets the CAF currently flies, with the exception of the Canadian insignia--it should be subdued, but the heck with it, this looks better. It carries the squadron insignia of 409 (Blackhawk) Squadron, which I remember from their days in the Voodoo when I was a kid.

This was fun, and I hope you enjoy it.

Like the canards.
Am of the mind canards are underutilized.
And the Iroquois engine was part of the story as well.
If you don't have it already, look up the book
Avro Arrow the story of the Avro Arrow from its evolution to its extinction, by  "The Arrowheads", Richard Organ, Ron Page, Don Watson, Les Wilkinson.
This says copyright 1980, revised 1992.
Lists both Stoddart Publishing, Boston Mills Press, and I don't know what to make of 2 publishers being listed.

Yo sentineldude, you said you wanna really draw chicks and airplanes. Why not draw an ace combat like ground scene with hot chicks or your fave characters with this beast in a sorta should have been scene lol. It'd be cool!

I think the blame rests more on Diefenbaker's administration in Ottawa and the British White Paper of 1958.
