Description
Since I posted a F-14, might as well put up its predecessor, the famous F-4 Phantom II. This is a later naval variant, the F-4N, with electronic countermeasure bulges on the intakes and no laser designator under the nose. Like the F-14, the F-4 was also originally built as a fleet defense fighter for the US Navy, but once acquired by the US Air Force, became one of the first multirole aircraft, serving in nearly every role possible. Over Vietnam, it was the principal fighter of American units, and despite never being designed to dogfight, did well enough. It was also used in combat by the Israeli and Iranian air forces in the Middle East.Ironically enough, the F-4 soldiers on in several air forces (namely Germany and Japan), outlasting its replacement, the F-14.
My F-4N is camouflaged in the same dark scheme as the "Black Widow" F-14, but has a unicorn on the tail--yes, it's an obvious homage to Shin Kazama's "flaming unicorn" emblem from Area 88. (It says "Fighter Squadron Five Unicorns" on the spine, but I should've used a different color besides red, as it blends back into the gray.)
