Description This was one of the fairy tales that as a child I had the G-rated version. Let's just say that "it?!" happens to be twins (I guess that tower wasn't 'protection' enough). When the prince in the Grimms' story falls out of the tower after the witch cuts the hair he gouges his eyes out on thorns. Don't worry, though, he gets his vision back when he meets up with Rapunzel again, course they had to wander around in a desert for a while beforehand. Ah, true love.

It's kind sad how both Disney and modern day interpretations of Rapunzel left out the teen pregnancy and strugel for independence and it an adverage love story.Β

Yeah, I always wondered if the prince explained what exactly sex symbolized between a man and a woman to Rapunzel. I also wondered who explained the who pregnancy thing and how she was able to give birth to twinsΒ all by herself if no one explained birth and pregnancy to her.Β Β

I read the older version in Paul O. Zelinsky's beautifully illustrated Rapunzel book. I was shocked when I read it, for up until then I had only read the censored version. I did some research and I found out that the version with the pregnancy is the original.

The version in an old anime known as Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics also leaves in the pregnancy (though in this version she only has one child). It was aired on Nick Jr. around 1990 or so. In the episode, Rapunzel and the prince clearly look like teenagers, even when they're with the little kid. Considering the sugarcoated shows that are on Nick Jr. now, it is quite surprising that they got away with that. (See for yourself here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr4y_d…

I think I know which book you're talking about! Does Rapunzel have red-gold hair and a pet Siamese cat in the book and did it win an award for the illustrations? If so, I have the same book and it's one of my favorites!^^

hahaha love it. I remember reading this as a kid. Although, in the versions I read the prince never went blind and they didn't have kids.
