Description
I've drawn this model a couple of times before. He could really be a good super-hero reference model - he's a personal trainer who does figure modeling on the side for extra money. He also picks good poses. This one isn't especially dramatic, but even though they were subtle there were still good twists, curves, and action lines. He was actually holding the hand of a second model who was seated. And he's slightly pulling away from her. This is the third time I've tried the pastel pencils, and this time I made myself not go for detail. So, no individual fingers, for example. I used yellow, sepia, and dark green to try to get the light, mid, and dark tones. I also used a mid-tone paper that another artist let me try, so I wasn't building everything up from white. Actual size of the drawing is about 14.5 inches tall.

good decision on the hands, sometimes we need to be able to focus on the bigger picture rather than make the viewer pay so much attention to the details.
I mean detail is nice though but sometimes overdone.

Another factor was that the pencil sharpener I had wasn't really sharpening the pastel pencils. Just grinding away the wood and leaving rounded nubs.
